Well the one I had in mind had effectively school bonds. So when your kid is born you drop money into the schools bank account to secure a place. And then when the kid matriculates 18 years later you get your money back, except its now worth nothing.

...i.e. separate from the actual admission fees and deposits. If you didn't kick in cash years ahead of admission you can basically forget about getting a place.

Don't recall which school that was...some preppy place in Jhb.
Like this?
Every student attending Stanford has to have the use of a debenture. Such use is either acquired by purchasing a debenture or using a debenture owned by someone else, which the school would facilitate.

A debenture that is purchased can be sold once the student has left Stanford Lake College. The value of debentures is fixed at R35,000. When using another person’s debenture it costs R6,270 per annum non-refundable rent, totaling R31,350 over 5 years. We would encourage parents to purchase a debenture as it has value and amounts to the best value for money over time.

Good luck. From the sounds of it you can't even prove she's your kid. Is there a chance she might at least admit to it?

Have you got her back up school lined up?
Nope. If I don't get an answer in the affirmative within the next 48 hours, I'm sending her back to the technical school she came from. Or explore that Impaq thing @pinball wizard mentioned.

She'll be the first welder in the family.

Just out of curiosity, who teaches your kid/s? And also, does that person have a full time job? What about sports and friends?
He stays with my sister during the school term, she has her son also at Impaq/homeschool. She (amongst other degrees) has a BPrim.Ed, and although she has a full time job, it necessitates her going in to the office only twice a week, so she facilitates there online learning.

Like I mentioned, I have a massive cheat going on, and I realise I'm lucky and this isn't the easy normal for most.

Aren't all parents?
I'm responsible for their overall wellbeing but I'm smart enough to know I wouldn't be able to coordinate my kids' studies as well as they deserve, so I pay a school to do it. They're better qualified than I.

"They're better qualified than I" - Totally agree... people will jump to outsourcing maintenance work around the house on this basis, so why not education as well?

She’s got a welding job waiting, need someone without experience so that I won’t have to pay them much of a salary... bonus she’s a female so I pay even less! That is how it works right?

Might cost an arm and a leg but ... Matrix results for 2020.

On Friday, 19 February, we celebrated the release of the 2020 Matric results. The Matrics of 2020 delivered an incredible set of results and, given their unprecedented year, this accomplishment is even more astounding. The Matrics achieved the best set of IEB results in our 22 years of operation.

Our 88 matric learners achieved a 100% pass rate, and all passed with access to tertiary studies.
• 93.18% of learners achieved a bachelor’s degree pass.
• 15 learners achieved an A-aggregate and 31 learners achieved a B-aggregate.
• 82% of our learners achieved an aggregate of 60% and above.

Home schooling. Impaq registration fee. I already had all the coursework and textbooks from another kid in Grade 9 the previous year.

(So, it's a cheat, but a massive win... Even so, regular Impaq with all the text books and so on is around R10k for the year.)
I would never survive homeschooling my kid-last year drove me insane.

My kid is at curro but we have the option of homeschooling without the need to go into class except for tests/exams.

we love it! She doesn’t need much help and does quite well. No need to run up and down to drop off as much. She does have the odd day where she misses her friends though and wants to go in for a day.

to answer the question about the paperwork. When we enrolled their admin was a mess! However the teachers are good and the education side is 1000 times better than the admin.
