You don't pre pay customs and pay when you collect from SAPO.

Also the date of Dec 22 is when it arrived at customs in SA.

Yes you don't. The Ebay Global Shipping Program includes prepayment of customs/VAT and is currently only available from the UK and US. There's no SAPO in that. So "Ebay international shipping" is not that. That's just ordinary airmail, EMS or courier the shipper uses.

I just checked on Paypal; They give you 180 days after the date of payment to file a dispute and claim a refund. I do have the tracking number from the seller fortunately. So I have been tracking:thumbsup:

If you don't receive the item before the deadline you can file a claim.

What the **** you on about?

My package went with DHL where it was handed to SAPO.
OP asked about it and I gave my experience about it.

I buy alot from ebay

Some packages DHL, zero extra customs.
On the other hand, SAPO ... extra 20% import VAT

I cant figure out will I pay 20% or not! Lol

Hi everyone. Thought I'd leave a little update for anyone who cares lol. Much to my surprise, I actually received my parcel from SAPO on 14 February 2024. But it wasn't without a little effort on my end. It was a total waiting period of 48 Days from the day I purchased my item.

Once it had arrived at the post office, they did not notify me and also, it not indicate on the multiple tracking websites at all that it was at the post office and ready for collection. So I had to personally go to Witspos Hub and inquire about the whereabouts of my package. They then directed me to the correct post office.

I had ordered a whole camera lens, it was quite pricey and I'd thought for sure it would have gone missing due to the many negative SAPO reviews (and my first hand experience dealing with them in 2018). But thank goodness I actually received my package.

I also thought I'd just let people out there know that you should absolutely make extra sure that, if you're selecting DHL to deliver your goods on any online platform, ensure you choose DHL Express and not DHL Paket International as your items will be handed over to SAPO. Unless, of course, you have total trust in the system, and you're okay with the latter. Cheers!

Good news, what import duties were you charged?

DHL sucks so much!!! I paid them! Not crappy SAPO!!! The second it was handed over to SUCO all tracking info just vanishes. We pay premiums because we cant trust anyone in government and then the corporations just sell us out.

For next time consider using a shipping service. I have used Aramex Global, but beware they can be a problem. Look at the complaints on their SA facebook page. But I got my packages, 2nd one a month after xmas even though they got the package in November.

It’s more your fault for not knowing the difference between DHL Express which is the courier and plain DHL which is postal.

The thing is I did use/pick what amounts to a global shipping service. DHL, FedEx, etc... they are not a bunch of clowns. I have used them for shipping from Korea and China a dozen times. Never a problem. But now DHL decides to pass it on the post office when it leaves the USA!!! That is ridiculous! Like taking your car to the dealer for a service and finding out they sent it the the oke who works by the side of the road... (apologies if I offend them). Tracking dead end the day they had over and SAPO does not answer the calls.

I paid via PayPal but the issue here is with DHL!!! So I will be raining Karen calls on them...

Aramex global shipper works. Its a bit slow but rock solid. 2 weeks or so on avg

DHL is not DHL... "DHL Express" is a courier service and "DHL Paket" is a postal service. You picked the wrong service. Don't go blaming your cock up on them...

They are getting more and more sneaky with this though.

They now also operate under DHL eConmerce for similar to Express pricing and then you reckon it’s the right thing only to find out it’s the same old same old **** show even operating directly out of America.

So just wanted to also post an update here because DBrand who used to be pretty solid with shipping to us now only do this "new" DHL eCommerce option.

I have ordered 3 times in the past from DHL and South Africa was always shipped using Aramex or proper DHL Express. You also get no other option on checkout (when I did at least) to select anything else.

I placed an order in December, It went MIA on the 21st and updates went dead in the water with the last status "PROCESSING COMPLETED AT ORIGIN - 08:14 AM CT - Melrose Park, IL, US".

So not knowing or expecting "DHL eCommerce" to be a post service, I contacted DBrand assuming the parcel as "lost". I then also contacted DHL on X wondering why/how this happened knowing DHL don't often mess things like this up, I pretty much got the response that "we can't track that tracking number" despite me being able to ON DHL's WEBSITE! Anyway, logged in today and saw it was updated on the 5th of Feb with "PROCESSED AT LOCAL DISTRIBUTION CENTER - 08:07 AM SAST, - ZACPTA, ZA" so its alive again, DBrand have already shipped me a new package.

Anyway, just wanted to add here for future Google Searches like how I found this, and I'll update when/if she arrives!

Thanks, yeah I moved to that now after I found this article, and it does update better but still has that massive gap between it leaving and finally landing here with its local tracking number, It does at least say the average time for it to obtain a local number which would have been great to see the first time and piece it together that its shipping via local post.
