Grab a box of popcorn and enjoy this ...

Soooooooooo ....

The car comes back from Springs (yes it was driven to springs to have the leather sorted out) ... remember this is a brand new car ... and what do i see ...

... it looked like they took a 100 Grit piece of sandpaper to the leather ... no lies no exaggeration ... so bad that its white on both bolsters and white on the centre section of the seat ... (the car has brown leather interior) the director knows now that it is ****ed! ... i mean, i know im fussy, but trust me, even a non fussy person can not accept that ... and im not talking R2 coin size here ... 20-25 cm in length and the breadth of the bolster ... and right now im thinking what leather place does a job like this ... ??? it was appalling! ...

Director pleads with me that he will order the leather pieces and sort this out, the top and bottom leather pieces ... and i told him im not too happy i want out of the deal ... problem is the sales guy in his brilliance registers the car on my name ... BUT i already instructed Wesbank not to honour the deal and they assured me they wont make any payment out ... Wesbank has not received the singed contract as Fiat has not sent any docs through based on my instruction. Subsequently to cover my @rse I instructed the dealership to also put the lines "cancelled" on every page of the contract and Ive seen them do this, they do however have the contract (the cancelled one) in their possession. I have again double confirmed that Wesbank has not received any documentation from FIAT a few minutes ago ... the problem FIAT will have is if i don't take the car at all it is now a second hand car as it was registered on my name ...

Fiat have fired the sales guy that dealt with my deal, because it was later found that in his attempt to be customer centric, he tried to clean the seats himself and he was the one who scuffed the leather, not the leather place, the leather place just removed the ink marks and said they received the leather in that state.

The sales guy phoned me and told me how he is renting a place somewhere, how his wife does not have a job and how is son has not been to school and him now not having this job means his life is ****ed! ... pleaded with me to take the car with the scuffs, and i told him i honestly can not accept a brand new car in such a state. to be quite frank i would not accept a second hand car in that state ...

what a messed up first dealing buying Italian :(

Holy carp!

Don't beat yourself up over the sales guy... lesson learnt, I'd think. Although for him to be fired is a little harsh - I think I might have made 1 or 2 bigger cockups in my time selling cars.

If the DP is worth anything, he would want to see you emerge on the other side with a smile on your face, even if forced ever so slightly. I'd grant him the opportunity to rectify things. But, I would set him the condition of supplying you with a car until the issues are sorted out.

If I were in your position, I would suggest to the DP that he reinstate the oke on a probationary period. Seeing a fault on a car whilst preparing for delivery is hugely nervewracking and it kinda sends good judgement flying out the nearest window. Although his unwillingness to hand the car over to you on a Saturday would have me wondering whether I should... Perhaps that was also a bit of a diversionary tactic, in the interest of being 'customer-centric'. Not to defend the oke, but someone pulling up to a FIAT dealership in a GT3 is going to be a pretty daunting client to deal with. He screwed up, badly...

It's a shame to have your first venture with a new brand spoilt so, but having been there **** really does sometimes just happen.

Thanks for the update Adam.

Quite frankly I feel nothing for that salesman. he sounded like a tosser who wasn't that interested in his sale from the beginning. If the DP has decided to fire him, this will not have been the only reason, otherwise they would end up in CCMA....time for him to think about actually working for his money in the future!

Had I had that sort of person working for me at Sakers, he would not have lasted past refusing to deliver the car on Saturday.........it's a tough world out there...the sooner he finds out the better.

The ONLY way the DP can set things right with you, is to give you a totally new car, end of story. It is NOT your problem that the salesman registered the car in your name...they can easily sort it out...the car will be registered as a demo and on the second hand car lot within a week, so don't stress .

Personally, I would insist on a new car, and demand a car t use in the interim...if necessary thrash it out with Arnold Chatz directly...he listens!!

Must be fair to the FIAT director Dwayne, He is going out of his way it seems now to make me happy ... as it stand the contract is cancelled, he will order the full leather pieces for the seats, sort the car out and then if im happy i will take the car sign a new contract etc (of course this must all happen within acceptable timelines and not in 6 months) ... the leather is a special make of leather that can only be imported from Italy, how long this will take i dont know

EDIT: Fazda, the problem with me is i think a lot with my heart, the right way is to insist on a new car period, you right he can sell this as a demo ... do have have some sort of contact details for Arnold Chatz ... i only got the directors contacts and DP's, Wayne and Derek

Yeah, on 2nd thought, screw the sales guy. If his situation is so dire he should've looked after his job better.

Maybe I should go ask for it. :p

Why dont you just request them to swop the whole seat with another car in stock? Quick fix.

OK so let's see what problems an Italian has brought to your doorstep...
1. Uneducated school kid
2. Unemployed mother and father - who will now resort to booze and hit each other.
3. Lost client for FiatSA.
4. You without a car.
5. You being known by all Italians as a snob and a difficult person.
6. The word "canceled" on fresh FiatSA papers.
7. A FiatSA director that's on his knees begging you to take a small car.
8. You now own a BRAND NEW car that you haven't even driven for 50km's...they have!
9. 100 Grit sandpaper the prime suspect.

LOL sorry to hear all this man...

Oh, normally parts are ordered from Italy by FiatSA in 3 weeks tops...me knows, me been there!

Arnold Chatz, in his old days is a good chap...it's quite shocking that his legacy with car sales is so tarnished by FiatSA's reluctance to get a NEW client on board...like I stated earlier...they NEED it! I gues this is what you get when you have Directors in FiatSA and Alfa RomeoSA that DON'T even DRIVE FIAT's OR ALFA's!!!

Hope you get it sorted, have you thought about maybe getting a discount now that they put you through so much trouble???

Oh...Adamr...yep your Brown leather is VERY RARE!!! You can't just chop and change like any other car...these things are built in Italy by temperamental people.

It's like the red leather interior of my mates GTV (sorry for bringing up Alfa stories again) the dash and seats and doorcards are red leather...no change here, if there's a cut...finito!

I have off white leather in my 147, also rare in this model, but this came from another 156 Ti version...to clean it is a bitch...

But anyway...moral of the story...the leather is RARE in SA, especially your BROWN leather!

4 months??? JOH...FiatSA had a Alfa Romeo clause whereby they order within 3 weeks!!!

Woah!!
Crazy story!! Im sure everyone here kind of knew that aftersales service from Fiat will be a pain, but not straight after you sign the papers!!

I agree with the previous poster, the sales guy kind of deserves it, I picked up my golf on a Sunday night at 8pm, the dealer accommodated me.

I would now insist on a brand new car! Alternatively you ask for lots of freebies, more discount on the vehicle with the new mileage, extra 3 year warranty/service plan, free tank of fuel whatever, just lots of freebies:p
Balls in your court now.

Just imagine it happened to a younger person without a GT3... what would that person do?

I think youll most probably find that the sales guy is responsible for the ink on the seats, and the only reason your car doesnt have a speeding fine yet is that the plates havent been installed, that might be why he was inclined to not report the ink mark on the seats, as he would likely have to pay for it out of his own pocket, which ironically, would have probably been the better route to follow now. its your call as to wether you as the DP to give him his job back, he has not put in huge effort to help you so he definately deserve to lose the sale, you should ask for a new car as the car is second hand, with the mileage and what ever other damage it might have sustained while being self repaired...

good luck with whatever route you take, might you be able to take some pictures of the car and the damages sustained to the seats?

It wasn't an Alfa or a Fiat, so therefore the salesman was able to go the extra mile....as they do for most VAG owners....:D

they have to. i mean someone willfully bought a VW.... *RUN*

I've had problems with Renault, I've had 7 Renaults. I WILL buy another Renault. Nothing else. :) (okay maybe an Audi A4 will steal my heart but she will need try much harder)

repeat: WHAT WAS WRONG WIFF IT???

Absolutely nothing!
We had a wedding in the family, tried to pick it up on Saturday, then cancelled, Sunday afternoon but I couldnt make it, called him Sunday night around 6pm, I didnt want to pick it up on the Monday so he opened on the Sunday night.

He even put all the lights on so I could have a look at the tyres and do a little quality check. He also brought a little complimentary fruit basket.:p

And thats for a Citi Golf!

LMFAO...someone willfully bought a VW..omg!

Salemen are stealers! Thus we don't call'em dealers anymore, zey name is stealers! What happened to customer service in this world...whether you drive a GT3 or an old ugly car like a Velocity...you are treated the same...LIKE CRAP!

I can't imagine how Adamr feels, big up to Adamr for even considering giving FiatSA another chance...getting a new car you paid so much for is supposed to release feelings of euphoria...great expectations, happy days, smiles, sweaty palms...instead he god 100Grit on his luxury brown Italian leather...oh, a queastion Adamr...does the leather smell distinctly different than any other leather interior you've smelt??? Italian leather smells divine...Mazda leather yuk...
