Anyone have contacts in Openserve - need 7 x 500mbps lines

So we are in desperate need of fibre infrastructure on a large farming + residential + industrial property that is a little bit outside the JHB suburb of Lenasia. Openserve is the dominant FNO in the suburb and works superbly. However, at this property, there is no last mile FTTx infrastructure close by. There used to be Telkom copper lines some 6+ years ago, until they were stolen and partially replaced.

The closest Openserve last mile FTTx services are about 1km away. Most of the users/businesses have been operating on LTE / Fixed LTE but this is no longer sufficient.

I don't think it would be too much effort or expense for Openserve or any other FNO to get us connected. There is Openserve/Telkom backhaul fibre running along the outside perimeter of the property, that was laid about 2 years ago. Prior to that there is DFA/B-Wired backhaul running along the same route to connect the City of Joburg offices to its own sub-stations and other sites. And like I said, the closest Openserve FTTx services that are live are just 1km away for a residential area.

There is an immediate need for 7 x 500mbps lines. There is no interest in business fibre from the likes of Vodacom, MTN or other business operators. Their services are way over-priced, are very unreliable even though they come with SLAs and supposedly higher and guaranteed QoS, and very bad turn-around times to resolve issues. But Openserve iself in Lenasia has been superb. Probably less than 48 hours downtime in the last 5 years, mostly due to cable theft and vandalism.

So does anyone have any contacts high up in Openserve / Telkom Wholesale division that we can speak to to get infrastructure rolled out?

Why not put up a point-to-multipoint data link using antennas?

1km is generally calculated at a cost of R750k - R1m - between wayleaves, build costs, the fibre itself (which is the cheapest part), possible community engagement etc. For 7 FTTH lines, this is a highly unlikely prospect.

Fixed wireless solutions (not mobile 4G/5G, but something PTP in licensed or unlicensed bands) is likely your best bet out here.

You are looking at quite a bit of capital to get that started, Web Squad is right PtmP or PtP setup. I know of Ultralink they are in that space or even @websquadza

Thanks for the replies, but not looking for PtP or PtmP links, WISP services, microwave links or anything wireless. I've put up plenty of PtP links on a smaller scale for larger customers and understand the technology, costs, advantages, disadvantages, etc very well. I'm looking for fibre, and more specifically, Openserve fibre.

Assuming this site takes 10 x 500mbps lines. Afrihost sells these uncapped @ R1,400. Assuming 50% of this goes to Openserve, that's R84k p/a. or R840k over 10 years, excluding price increases, package upgrades to 1Gbps if/when it becomes available, or additional lines added in the future, or the potential to connect neighboring large properties . Smaller FNOs won't be interested in smaller builds like this. But larger FNOs with a longer-term view and with access to more capital might be interested. With Openserve so close by, I think I can convince them, if I can get hold of someone in the right position. Assuming Openserve uses the same poles / wayleaves / conduit and other infrastructure Telkom previously installed for copper services, the cost should not be as much as you guys have mentioned. Openserve fibre-backhaul literally runs outside the property, to connect the Lenasia Exchange with the Lenasia South Exchange, making it even cheaper and quicker.

So back to my original question, anyone have contacts high up in Openserve that we can engage with?

We've done plenty of large-scale customers spanning 200 plus customers so that why most of us are saying going the wireless option would be more cost-effective.

Sadly, your figures are way off, But I would say good luck then, try contacting them directly but for the most part if you haven't done the leg work then it would be very hard to convince them of a suitable return on investment.

I edited my reply above while you were replying, which included more info, which is relevant to the costs you're talking about. Yes my figures are a complete thumb-suck, but they gave a vague idea of RoI. There is EXISTING Telkom/Openserve infrastructure ON-SITE and just outside the property that can be used. The 1km distance applies to the closest LIVE last-mile Openserve FTTH lines.
