Hi,

As the topic asks, how does one easily do this ?

I would think a cron job script has to run and send the stats, but I found no conclusive example through googling.

Anyone know of a download or script for this?

thx

Does it need to be awstats. Google Analytics is way better, more acuate and way more comprehensive and you can set up scheduled reports in no time.

As for awstats, I don't think it supports this. I don't know if this would work but you could always try a shell scipt to wget the stats page, if it is publicly accessible, and then mail said file via shell.

Yes, it is actually. GA has intelligence where AWstats does not. AWstats is reporting, plain and simple. It does not take into account returning visitors, bots, scrapers, spiders or remote image loads and all these factors. It is just a raw stats analysis. GA will take all these into account, and stip all the trash out and give you a 'realistic' reading of your sites performance. There is a reason why Urchin, now GA is the best stats reporting tool. This is why when you look at AWstats, the figures are always large and very misleading. You can also not do any conversion tracking or performance tracking with AWstats which you can with GA.

Are you sure? Because last time I checked AWStats gave you a bot/scraper and spider stats including return visitors and whatever you mentioned, even direct linking (to images, yay for htaccess advertising my **** on other websites). And I'm not entirely sure you know 100% exactly what you're talking about (no offence) because Urchin is still around, and it too, is a server logs analyzer/reporter.

So tell me. If I have JavaScript disabled. How much of a mind-**** would that be to your GA statistics ;)

You mentioned the figures being large and very misleading. That's only because you can't interpret what each mean IMO. People see "100000000 hits" and think "OMG I CAN LIKE TO SELL ADVERTISING" but anyway... continue argument... ;)

Both GA and Awstats have their merits. GA is heavily aimed with a business viewpoint. You can log peoples entries and follow their routes. You can optimize your routes for better conversions and optimisations. You can track keywords which also helps massively in the business part of the site. Yes if some one has disabled JS you can not track them but that probably amounts for less than 5% of the internet, probably alot lower than that if you have any form of e-commerce as these people would never get anywhere.

Before this turns into a GA vs AWstats, I would recommend you have both running on your server if possible, but if you are into optimising your site and use stats for that, you will get much better results from GA than you will from AWstats

Suppose this will be off topic, but related nonetheless.

WebAfrica provide AWStats and SmarterStats with my domain. Now I don't have a site at the root of the domain at the moment but only got an application running in a sub-domain. When checking the stats, it provides information but the details is only related to the root domain and not the sub domain.

Any ideas on how I can go about to get more detailed stats on the sub domain?

Buy and run your own server. Unfortunately it seems that Web Africa's hosting staff don't know their ass from their elbow... and those that do know their **** is either promoted into a manager position (which means they deal less with the technical stuff anyway) or works weird shifts so it take more than 3 days just to get to the bottom of 1 issue. So that's my answer... ;)
