It's always been a dream for me to own a Porsche. I'm a big fan of the Cayman S, and I'm considering getting a 2006 - 2009 2nd hand model.

I don't drive a lot, maybe 1000km - 2000km max a year, so this will be more a toy than anything else. Are there any pitfalls I need to know when going to check out a 2nd hand one?

Dont own one myself but maybe start off with whatcar.com, they have a bit of info on second hand cars and some reader reviews as well. See link : http://www.whatcar.com/car-reviews/used/porsche/cayman-coupe/summary/25487-4
It will also be worthwhile to seek out any Porsche clubs / forums and post a similiar question there, had some valuable advice with my own car on such forums.

Forgot to mention, there is a "What should I look for section" under the Full Review tab

It's a nice car to go for. I see them up here quite often.
Pitfalls... make sure you have money set aside for services and parts.

Yes, I'm not concerned about the services and parts ( I am aware it's a sports car ), I'm more worried about buying a lemon without knowing what to look for.

A friend bought one. He drove it for a couple of months, then it went in for some stuff to be repaired, and it never came back. After they'd had it for about four months and were still waiting for parts he asked for his money back.

The only real problems with the Boxster and Cayman are that the 911 is the iconic Porsche to own, and owning one of the others just says you couldn't quite afford a 911 ;)

Putting it up there alongside the Opel Monza 1.6 GSI!

it wasn't the DELTA Corporation of South Africa Award, so it isn't even in the same stratosphere as the Opel Monza 1.6 GSI

So? And a BMW 3 series driver can't afford a 5 series. Only jealous people make such stupid comments.
