Hi guys. Im creating this topic to find out if anyone is still experiencing a major slowdown before I complain again since the problem was supposed to be rectified by this morning.

My downstream is averaging about 2.5K/sec (so less than 24kbps ie. 20% of 128kbps) and webpages are taking minutes to load.

This may be a stupid question but I also want to know if it will suddenly jump back to normal or must I keep trying to reconnect? If the problem is not on Sentech's side then surely its not related to my connection to the network at all.

Lastly, assuming we are on a slow(er) backup link.. if some people are still experiencing good service then this means that the contention ratio is not implemented fairly. This is a bad sign for the future. But hey, I could be wrong.

Please post your current results and experiences.

Even just plain old browsing is terrible. I think you connect to tower 12 (Mintek), same as me. What was supposed to be sorted out this morning? Hopefully something on tower 12

Well I just had a call from the helpdesk about my ticket from yesterday. Apparently they were broadcasting from Loftus on Sentech's commerical frequency again. They have called in ICASA.

I also mentioned the speed problem. So the guy sent me to http://www.sentech.co.za/speedtest/display_speed.php where I tested my speed - 3.12KB/sec - so he said (like always) if its not fixed by tomorrow then phone back. What about fixing it now? But yes its not their fault and maybe not even Sentech's problem BUT we are paying our R20+ a day for poor service. What about all the backup satellite bandwidth?

Can anyone who is experiencing normal levels of speed please post. For example, anything above 10KB/sec on the speedtest above. I (we) would like to see if its only a limited number of cases.

mmm from Durbs this is a miracle on 512k [:D]

Re: the contention ratio, I pay more than you peasants on 128k, I sure as hell hope they put my connection on priority over you guys... or else i might as well just fecking get 128k

Why do you have to "put your two cents in"... but it's only a "penny for your thoughts"? Where's that extra penny going to?

Hi,

I connect to 82 (Sentech Radiokop/Honeydew).

Browsing and downloading has been terrible since about tuesday. And suddenly our lights on the modem have gone from 3 to 1, and from 12% to 4%.

I wonder whats going on.

I am not that unhappy (don't do much downloading) - I'd like it fixed though. My patch antenna and ethernet cable should be arriving this weekend.

Well it seems the local bandwidth is fine the international bandwidth is slow though... got on bandwidthplace 64kbit/s but on sentech's site 24KB/s

Now what am I supposed to do.. I have spoken to support (no help), mailed them again this afternoon, reconnected and everything but still its damn slow.

It seems to me that everyone is not experiencing any problems or are just keeping quiet about it. So I guess its an isolated case.

Not sure why you are getting slow speeds. Just ran it 17:00 on the 2MB test and came up with:
Speed Test
Your speed is: 19.2 KB/s

That is on a 256K connection apparently.

Good luck on your mission to fix!

My connection seems OK, but my download speed from international sites, as well as from people on the telkom network is < 2kB/s. I usually get a lot more than that [V]. (128k Package)

Slower than a 56k connection - current speed under 3k per second.

The Sasser worm can't still be causing that kinda bandwidth slowdown, but then again, I've never had a connection with 100% gauranteed speeds or uptime :)

My old landline used to cut of about once every 3 months, taking from 48 hours to 1 week to fix.

Our work diginet line would give k@k about twice a month in one way or another. Usually total disconnection or irratic packet loss.

Ah well, hope it won't last - hey, maybe there is a cap and we've all exceeded it ! - welcome to 28.8 hell ! [:D]

Yeah, but you probably have some kinda pr0n clause in your account - you sniff out the quality stuph and are guaranteed bandwidth ! [:D]

The rest of us plebs take the scraps we can get !

/me gets overmelodramatic and starts reminiscing about the good old days of dial-up... [}:)]

My speed has been terrible for the past two days. The highest speed I've seen for downloads past two days is 10 kB/s. Normally I'ld be getting around 30 kB/s

I'm on 256K package, tower 12 - Mintek(JHB) {16%}
