Hi All

I wanted to ask if anyone has ever used EMS to ship goods from China to South Africa? I bought some Jerseys from China, the order was processed on 6 Dec. 2012 and then shipped on 7 December 2012. (Due to the 7th being a Friday the goods made its way to the sorting center on Monday 10 Dec. 2012)

Here is the tracking details according to EMS China:

2012-12-10 18:56:08 SHANGHAI Arrival at Sorting Center
2012-12-10 21:19:00 MINHANG Despatch from Sorting Center
2012-12-11 02:51:48 SHANGHAI Despatch from Sorting Center

Has anyone had experience with EMS and how long does it normally take to get to South Africa? and is this normal? Or if you did not use EMS how long normally did it take before you recieved the goods?

Thank you very much!

Yes I've used them.
Usually takes 14 days or so.
I think it comes via the post office on this side though, so you may get a delay there. Also, it's christmas rush time.

Hi

I once bought something from Hongkong (a motherboard for an HP laptop). Even though it was a registered letter, they couldn't track it past leaving the country, and it never arrived. Luckily Paypal refunded me my money! So I only order with a courier now if it's from a country I don't trust.

Good luck ;)

15% of my shipments disappear.

But WRT EMS, the only one that got lost was from the USA, and it was stolen in the EMS Depot at ORT.

Because it was tracked, it was easy to determine where it was stolen, but conveniently, not who did it.

I got no compensation from the SAPO, in spite of filing a claim.

14 days in your dreams! In 2012 we have had over 22 clients whose shipments (via EMS) disappeared between China and South Africa. In each case the supplier provided a tracking number which indicated that the shipment had left. We have a correspondent in Hong Kong who (for quite a fee) looks after these cases which strongly appear to be fraud. All of the shipments exceeded R50k in value, so its not worth suing over some paltry computer parts or fake wrist-watches

I do have an EMS tracking number but i doubt its any good on this end since it hasn't arrived in SA yet.

It was dispatched on Tuesday 11 December 2012. This is according to the parcel track on the EMS website.

Depends on customs. 3 weeks to two months.

Monitor the tracking number, as soon as you see it here, send them an invoice. The detention notice delays things by up to a month

BEWARE: AGS and electronic items

"Power Banks and standalone Batteries are now unacceptable" as per a AGS service update (10 Oct 16).

Now Aramex Global Shopper wants to 'discard or return' my smartwatch with a tiny 3V, 450 mAh battery (built-in, non-removable). This despite the service update also stating that "However, this does not affect items that come packaged with batteries inside or have inbuilt batteries."

Please see my detailed post:
http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...al-shopper?p=18538146&viewfull=1#post18538146

If AGS is no longer shipping items with built-in batteries it means that almost all electronic items (i.e. toys, wireless headsets, portable speakers, gps devices, cameras, gaming consoles, etc.) or anything that charges cannot be purchased through AGS.

In summary, buyer beware, MANY items you want to buy will be discarded or returned to sender.
