My HP Microserver has served me well, but as compression formats change, it is outdated now and often buffers 1080p content to my Roku with CPU on 100%.

My thought process is to move all my series and movies into Plex Cloud, using a Dropbox or Google Drive storage which are supported.

Is anyone using Plex Cloud with GD or DB? How good is the streaming experience?

Next question: A seedbox would make more sense to pull the series down from torrents or newservers and then move across to the cloud storage, rather than download to home machine and then upload to cloud storage. What does a decent seedbox cost for this purpose?

The advantage of Plex Cloud would be that all family members spread over 4 households could share the Plex content through their own profiles ala Netflix

I did a bit of research into this when it first launched, but decided against it for two main reasons:
1. Fully dependent on high speed, reliable internet connection with large cap/uncapped.
2. Any of the storage service providers (Amazon, GD, etc.) have terms in their agreements that basically say that they have the right to remove any content on their platforms that are illegally obtained - like from torrents.

My HP Micro server also struggles also struggles with 1080p content, so in the end I just used an old laptop (with a decent processor/gfx) as the plex server, and the HP just stores the content.

Heard you have to encrypt files or they will be removed.

Edit: It seems you can upload movie/series collection, you must just rename the files and take away the "h4kotr0nxxx.BLU-RAY.1080p-Safe.Haven.(2015)"

I was just going to post about this. I’ve been using Plex Cloud + Google Drive (G Suite) since beta and I have mixed feelings about it.

Issues:
I don’t like that it’s not always on, it starts up when you try to access it. What that then means is that the libraries only get updated when you access it, which could take some time if you add a lot of content on a regular basis. Plex Cloud only allows 3 concurrent streams. I have

Advantages:
I have a dedicated server with all my media hosted on Amazon Cloud Drive, I use rclone to mount the drive and encrypt the media. Plex cloud is faster on playback and seek. Media playback starts about 5-10 seconds faster (10s vs 20s) and seeking works very well.
Currently it costs me over R1000 per month to run the server, plus all the time I put into it. I’ve got a lifetime pass for Plex. This means that I won’t need to pay for a dedicated server. That’s a helluva saving.

If Plex Cloud becomes stable and increases the 3 concurrent stream limit, then I will seriously consider moving over permanently.
