Something very weird going on with WBS's authentication system. I've done some testing that got me very confused ...
1. I've tried reseting my UTD and my DLink 624+ router numurous times in different sequences, including leaving them both off for at least 15 min and my router will just not authenticate on PPPoE.
2. Connected Ethernet cable directly into my PC and used WinXP's PPPoE client and viola ... connects no problem. Have swopped between router & PC a couple of times and the result is always the same ... router wont connect, PC always does.
3. Ok so maybe the WAN port on my router popped ... nope, tested Ethernet cable ... works, changed router WAN port to static IP instead of PPPoE and telneted into UTD through router. WAN port is fine.
4. Checked signal using utTraceStar ... everthing on the radio side looks as normal ... I get between -64 & -67 dB off Kyalami tower & never hop to other towers.
5. Tried changing MTU on router to same as WinXP (which seems to auto set to 1400 ... checked using tool on dslreports.com), still no luck, my router will not authenticate.
So WTF is going on ... what did WBS change on their auth system ... I first experienced it @ about 9:45 when my router suddenly lost PPPoE auth and still will not re-connect?
Some possibilities ...
1. MAC address of my router's WAN port (I think included in PPPoE auth) has somehow been blocked?
2. WBS are now more stringent of PPPoE packet format or timing? Unlikely why would it change?
3. New Oct 2005 firmware has some quirks? again unlikely cause its worked since last night till 9:45 tonight.
A bit stumped ATM ... only other thing I can do is downgrade to Feb firmware or hope tomorrow is a better day (whatever was changed is reversed).
