hey there,
I would really like to be able to use my own SMTP server. Is there any way to use my own smtp server.

I have heard of people doing some sort of relay from the wbs smtp server to their own. What's that about?

Looking forward to your feedback.

You will just use your own smtp server settings in your mail client instead of wbs's.

slimothy, I think you need to learn a little more about how email works before you go spouting crap like this.

Inter-server mails still go on port 25.

Port 25 is blocked, so just the Secure Connection Port : 465

[Tick] This Server Requires a Seure Connection (SSL) in your E-Mail Client and it's done

The server must be SSL Enabled!

Just so I understand correctly. I can use my own SMTP server as long as SSL is enabled on my server?

Err, how do I do that?

Well SSL is usually another port numberm, to the standard port 25. As long as the port number you use isnt port 25 then it will work. If it's a SSL port then you need Secure SMTP Mail / SSL enabled on the server. Also you can ask for a alternative port number from your ISP for the SMTP Server

Secure SMTP will have to be enabled on the server side..so call your ISP.

Why don't you

Howzit, I can't understand why you would want to use your own smtp server? I would understand you wanting ( and all u know ( Add the appropriate accent)) use a different POP3 server. i.e. if you wanted to always download mail from somewhere else instead of WBS. You can always use your POP3 to download and then still send via WBS smtp and make it look like the e-mail addrrss that you want. SMTP doesn't authenticate an e-mail address  that get's imbedded in the mime header it sends to the server. Ergo you could for exmaple have your POP3 set as homtail and send via WBS as HOTTHEFKNOWS@hotmail.com this will still go through. Don't know if this is what you are trying to achieve but if it is........ C ya

Corrofit, thats all good and well unfortunately some mail servers do not except mail with a different relay, AOL for example will not accept mail sent from WBS SMTP if the account is on Yahoo for example.

WBS's mail server overloaded, downtime, blocked for spam, drops mail. Enough reasons :p

i have two of my own domains where i use my own smtp servers.

i sent help desk an email and spoke to several people there until i was eventually
put through to a technical dude who unblocked them for me.

my reasoning was i cant send very important emails to people because the email refelcts two sending domains and then gets trashed by that server. <-- I wasnt sure if it was really happening, but either way I got what i wanted, but be warned you need patience and good manners with these people. :)

Jason. I have access to my Control Panel of my site server. When I go into my SSL Manager I get given 3 options : Private Keys, Certificate Signing Requests (CSR) and Certificates (CRT).

Which do I use to activate SSL?

Didn't have to make any changes as my POP and SMTP settings in my control panel were already SSL enabled.

I am now able to send mail via my own SMTP server. Take that iBust!
