Hi All

I ALWAYS connect to the MTN APN : "internet". It is an MTN contract SIM card.

When I however look on my online bill, I can see a number of calls to the "internet" as well as a number of the calls to the "mymtn" APN's. This seems really fishy to me as I never connect to the "mymtn" APN. Does anybody know, is it possible that there is some form of fraud going on here with someone else somehow making use of my MTN contract?

Do you have an MTN branded phone? The MyMTN APN would default you to MTN's Hompage...but essentially there is no difference between the two APNs, both still give you access to the web, at the same charge.

Nope, No Phone at all.

I am using the SIM in a Mikrotik RB411U router and the connection is specifically setup to connect to the "internet" APN.

These are just names, as in a profile name. When you set up a dialling profile, it asks you for a name. The default (with CellC) is "internet", but you can put anything in, it could be "Joe's" or "Susan" or "internet". It all ends up at the same place anyway

That is not true at all. It is not just a name. There is no APN such as Joe or Susan. I cannot connect to an APN called Joe or Susan. If I put a name like that in there, it does not connect! I am NOT talking about a profile name. I am talking about the APN.

Are you using an iPhone ? and are you tethering on it ? I have just seen that the tethering APN defaults to mymtn, and the regular APN is set to internet

Is the sim linked in any way?

If he's running a mikrotik and has the APN specified he is right, no radius packet should contain mymtn (which is what is contained in the "send me settings" sms). Unless the sim occasionally got inserted into another device.

How big are the sessions and how many are there (if they're 20KB or less ignore it). What about using something like cacti or paessler to snmp monitor and compare the traffic. The other option is to log your framed-ip (set the mikrotik to syslog to a remote destination and turn up the logging) then compare the ip's in the session report to what mtn supplies. If MTN are not supplying ip's ask for a complete copy of the session report indicating the nas and the framed ip.
