I have a S2 with Vodacom, and I often (mostly too late) find that there is no signal - "Emergency calls only"

I have done a sim swop, but problem still there. Vodacom help desk useless!

Anyone know of an app to alert for signal loss? It is getting annoying.

Did you do a software update lately? The software "modem" controls the wireless connections of your phone and if your modem is wrong you might experience weak signal.

For ICS 4.0.3 your modem should be XFV or XFA. Go to Settings/About Phone and Tell us the last 3 letters of your BASEBRANDVERSION and also your android version.

I suspect its most likely software

LPS is a Polish modem. Not sure why you got that update. Was it over KIES or odin?

I would recommend that you flash XFA(South African Open modem) first and see if it does't fix your problem. Most use the LP7 or KI4 modems.

Sign up here and DL the top(4.0.3) one: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=GT-I9100&pcode=XFA&os=1&type=1#firmware

Then DL Odin here: http://www.mediafire.com/?1v6w5haef2ze2at

Then read how to flash Samsung software with ODIN here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278

You will not lose you warranty since it is stock Samsung software. Its actually very easy, set your phone to DL mode, plug into computer, open odin(MAKE SURE KIES IS CLOSED), wait for it to detect device, add software in PDA, click start.

It was updated via Kies, and there is a Vodacom flash screen on startup and shutdown. So ????

kies firmware info: PDA:LP7 / Phone:LP6 / CSC:LP6(XFV)

Will the flash do a full wipe?

Oh, I see you have the XFV, that has the same LP7 modem as the update I showed you. So there is no point on trying the other one. I will dig around and see if I can't find other modems that could work or Vodacom. I suspect that the KI4 might, but I will find out and confirm.

LPS is the modem supplied SA firmwares from the networks. The FW is something like XWLP7. It is an excellent modem for SA. The three best ones I have tested and used are LPS, KI4 and KL1 of which the LPS one is in my opinion the best. Nothing wrong with the modem installed. You can try LQ5, but for me that was not better so I reverted back to LPS.

PS: XFA or XFV is not a modem

PPS: Check with the network and/or check with another phone if the signal is still bad

I have noticed the last couple days that it seems to happen at work. (Another reason to not come:))

The guy at the desk next to me, has a Galaxy Ace, also with Vodacom, and no problem.

So i just have to live with it.

Thanks anyway.

What did you start doing differently?

Try this: Menu, Settings, More..., Mobile networks, Network mode, select GSM only.
See if it improves.
