Apple’s credit card – Made of titanium, but can’t tap-to-pay

So how much does it cost to replace a credit card made of Titanium?

It won't support tap to pay since that is something you can do with your phone/watch.

Apple leading again! now to just hope we get it here :)

I f**king hate tap to pay. It's the most retarded payment mechanism ever devised. Why on Earth would I want someone to be able to tap my card against a machine and not require my pin code? All the wallets now have protective linings in them to protect against this crap.

It's more than a little disingenuous to claim that South Africans expect tap to pay.

I love tap to pay... makes the whole process simpler, and the card NEVER leaves my hand... plus the lack of pin is only for transactions below a certain value, and the risk for that lives with the bank, not you.

I see a master card logo there, so I'd assume this would work anywhere master card is accepted?

The card was specifically intended to be used wherever Apple Pay isn't accepted. So yes.

Please tell me you just forgot to use the sarcasm font.

While I obviously wouldn't argue in favour of Apple pushing the envelope with their card's tech, I would strongly prefer an Apple Card over a conventional one.

Not having your card number, expiration date & security code printed on the card is awesome. As is having a titanium card that won't get nappy over time. And no tap to pay is a good thing imo.

Except the card would have to leave your hand often if you shopped at many of the most common stores in SA. It annoys me no end when a store hasn't trained their staff to never touch their customers' cards.

I don't want someone stealing my card and being able to tap it as much as they want before I report it stolen.

@ToxicBunny Theres ways to get around that limit

I’m totally against “tap to pay “ systems due to fact it’s super easy to clone the card .There’s a Samsung app that clones cards and even allows you to select which card to broadcast when paying.

If there is no Pin entered, then the risk lives with the bank.... so still don't see the issue.

Apple running out of innovation ideas, so now instead of selling products they gonna sell money.

So how much does it cost to replace a credit card made of Titanium?
The cost of grade 5 titanium (the type they make aircraft from) is about $40 per kilogram, all depending on where you buy it from. This means that a credit card made from 1mm titanium will have a material cost of about R12.

The fact that it is made from titanium should not have much impact on the replacement cost, excluding profit taking of course.

Fair enough, thought it was pretty difficult to machine given it's toughness but then again Apple have never been shy about making premium products :D
