This will be huge if true, Google AI with Apple A series chips will be truly something…
Apple and Google are in active negotiations to let the iPhone maker license Gemini, Google's set of generative AI models, to power some new features coming to the phone's software this year, Bloomberg said.

The two parties have not decided the terms or branding of an AI agreement or finalised how it would be implemented, the report added.
It is unlikely that any deal would be announced until June, when Apple plans to hold its annual Worldwide Developers Conference, the report said.

This seems silly. Why buy all the AI companies and then not do it alone?

Yeah this seems like nonsense.

Apple has been at this for a long time already there’s no way they are farming it out to someone else.

It would go against all their privacy protocols as well.

If this is really happening I think this is key: “licensing Gemini for some new features coming to the iPhone software this year”

This may be similar to what Samsung did with Google, meaning that there could be some exclusive stuff coming that Google may have built for iPhone under a specific deal between Google and Apple, might find that the features live mostly in Google apps that are available on iOS.

What’s more likely to happen is Apple announcing their own AI entry into the market come new iPhone/iOS and then seeing they’ve been prepping this since Steve Jobs was alive.

They’ve been buying more AI companies than anyone else while simply keeping their cards close to their chest.

"Gemini, order me a white cafe latte"

Gemini: "It is against my principles to cater for whites exclusively, please rephrase your query".

From what I’ve read about this potential partnership with Google will only relate to cloud based genAI. Apple are developing their own on device model.
