Apple Mail Problems

Hi every one, I am a new user to apple and I don't regret changing to mac a single day. My only problem with mac is, I use a vodafone modem, got it connected after some time and downloads, my mac is running 10.6.2 and I am having problems sending mail using my vodafone modem , I receive mail but can't send a darn thing, I need this resolved and if some one out there can help I will really appreciate it. THANK YOU

If you are connecting with Vodacom, have you checked that your outgoing smtp is smtp.vodacom.co.za

That's the most common problem.

Also go Window -> Connection Doctor and let us know what servers are connecting and if everything is green.

Hi thanks for the help so far it is running, every thing goes green, smtp.isdsl.net and smtp.absamail.co.za and I now entered the vodacom details and hopes it sends its been busy for the last min or so sending one email no attachments. If it doesn't work what is there to do?

Try Vodacom Self Help... email/setup my email using mac mail.
Seems pretty straightforward to me.

As much as I love Apple Mail I found there were some problems with it in Snow Leapord. It would frequently fail to send messages from various accounts at various times - I found it to be a common problem after searching Apple support, so I migrated over to Thunderbird and I've not had a problem since. So bear in mind your settings could all be correct and the problem is with Apple Mail.

Mac mail is a POS, get anything but it..
Also double check if the smtp server requires authentication...

It costs about $10 a year (that is for your domain registration).

You can then configure Google to fetch all your other mail for you, and enable "send as" for your other accounts.

Apple mail will autoconfigure itself with Google Apps. It just works, and will save you plenty frustration. You also wont need to worry about backups (use IMAP). Oh, and you get to have your own domain for email

If you have an iPhone, you will get push email as well...

My experience lately has been that the more mobile you get, the more it becomes a pain in the backside to authenticate against various SMTP servers. May as well just do it now with Google and get it over with.

No need for a domain with Google Apps, just get a free gmail account. You'll get better SPAM protection too. All my personal email goes through Gmail and my work email goes through Google Apps. But I still have problems connecting to gmail's smtp server with Apple Mail.
