Apple Pay South Africa

I see Samsung Pay is gaining good traction in SA? Any idea when we’ll get Apple in SA?
If I'm not mistaken samsung devices can send out a magnetic field to which it can be used on traditional magnetic card swipe scanners. Apple pay needs a tag to pay and not all of the stores has those. Our technology isn't ready yet.

It doesn’t need a tag, simply an NFC receiver on the card machine like the Tap and Go contactless bank cards.

Sorry yes meant nfc receiver. Give it another 2 years before it would come. Im still oftenly seeing older generation card machines. Samsung pay just has much better support here at the moment

If I remember correctly from my time at a certain bank there were regulatory issues as to why Apple pay couldn't work (yet) in RSA. Something about how they handled the card data. Can't remember specifics though

FNB pay has been available for 2 years.

It can't work for iOS because Apple doesn't allow 3rd party apps to use the NFC chip.

I tried FNB pay on two Samsungs I've owned.
Make sure your NFC is on, mine tends to turn off every now and then.

So there is a work around that you can use Apple Pay here in SA already. If u need assistance ask me. It is up to the banks. All mobile payment systems take a cut... so I’m sure with Samsung being the first Apple will follow soon.

Why not just share in thread?

Security concerns, battery life etc...

I doubt NFC affects the battery life at all. Its only powered on when near by a receiver. As for security, maybe. However it can't be much of a threat - I mean, Apple do not have an option to turn off an NFC feature.
