Apple Pay South Africa

Just got off the phone with Discovery Bank. They said on their side it’s active but for some or another reason, it’s not on Apple’s side. We’d probably have to wait for the public version of iOS 14.4 to release. I’m on the public beta and I still can’t activate it.

Just a question, did you try add the card and it failed in the Wallet App?

Together with Discovery Bank, Nedbank is the only other bank that mentioned getting Apple Pay support last year. Interestingly, like the Discovery Bank app, you can see it has Apple Wallet support. Only Nedbank and Discovery Bank have Apple Wallet support.FC8BC800-FCCF-46DE-B47D-012738CEB53A.png

Nedbank definitely seems to be on board as well, I can add a Nedbank card and get different Ts & Cs from Nedbank. But it also fails after I agree to the terms. When adding cards from other banks I get an error stating that the bank is not supported.

I've got the public beta of 14.4. Does the ability to add a card only work once the right banking app is installed on your phone? I don't have the option to add a card under settings anymore.

Change your region to a supported region, HK, US, UK etc

Can you please send a screenshot? I'm sending a news tip to MyBB

Not sure if FNB or other banks are implementing or not - just aware that it is something that Discovery and Nedbank are working on. Also, apparently the implementation challenge is not simply around implementing the tokenisation solution which is fairly trivial and already in place for many other platforms - the challenge is making sure the PoP process is consistent and seamless (no PIN requests, requests to insert card, etc.). I'm guessing this is an Apple requirement – strong focus on consumer experience.

The PoP is done from the secure enclave, hence why you need to Auth with Face/Touch ID on the phone. On the Watch as long as it's unlocked you can activate it with double click or even automatically near the sensor if set up as an Express card.

It's one of the reasons Apple Pay is not available on jailbroken phones as the SEP is not allowing it.
