Apple says Android has up to 47x more malware than iPhone in continued pushback against sideloading

Amid growing pressure from private companies and governments to allow sideloading on iOS, Apple is out today with a new security paper diving into real-world data on how malware is impacting mobile devices. Along with statistics like Android having between 15 and 47 times more malware than iPhone, Apple is making its latest case against sideloading with data and recommendations from the US Department of Homeland Security, European Agency for Cybersecurity, NIST, Norton, and more.

As proposed legislation in the US, Europe, and elsewhere aims to force Apple to allow sideloading on iOS, the company is out today with a new security report that goes in-depth on why it believes opening up the App Store is a harmful idea. Today’s paper comes as a follow-up to the guide it published in June on the benefits of its curated App Store.

We dont need side loading and all that time consuming tinkering that comes with android.
Why then do I always see people online asking for a Newpipe alternative for iOS lol? Also haven't tinkered with my Android devices in about 4 years.

The wonderful thing about modern censorship is that the proles will not only just ignore it, they will actually defend it.

Then don't tinker and sideload? But for those who want to don't block their right to.

Alright keep side loading and then when your apple crashes dont blame apple, blame the user.

The same reason people see LGBQT+ everywhere, the algorithms secretly know you’re into it.

Is this like the Touch-Pad-bad thing you floated where every reply on this forum was some version of 'but I love the Touch Pad'?

Also...

I haven't tinkered with my iPhones since 2011... We've been having it for ten years now. What took you so long to catch up?

i have been using android for 8 years now. never had a malware issue, never side loaded anything. And i can plug my phone into my PC and copy paste stuff. I also dont suffer from the chip on shoulder issue Apple has. win win!

Ah yes, another argument by Apple where even they admit that people could just not sideload, but then argue that some will be "forced" to sideload apps, almost as though near all apps people use are not on the Google Play store for Android...

I'm on 10 years without Malware or viruses - but for some reason, every Apple user that had an Android has massive security breaches / ransomware / malware / plenty of file with a virus / crashed daily / rebooted hourly / froze / hung etc

I can not understand why ...

I think that iOS closes the gap with Android, Jailbreaking is less of a 'thing' and it's much less restrictive than it was once .

When I was limited to 20MB downloads only and Facetime only over WiFi, it was a tad restrictive . I recall sitting there was a 1GB on my data sim and it was wouldn't download my 22MB app :(

I'd still do it for e.g. app locking if I had kids (wouldn't want them touching e.g. Teams, my Id apps, Mendeley, Uber, etc.), portrait camera is only iPhone X even on iOS 15, lots would for call recording, I'd still want access to internal files, and Activator (think Tasker on Android).

Always?

I haven’t seen jailbreak conversations in years.

And last time I did it was iOS 6 or 7.

Just no need for it any more.

Yes been following privacytools.io on reddit for a while and every few months someone is asking for a Newpipe alternative for iOS. I just chuckle since've been having it lol.

Wow one application that serves no massive functional purpose.

I’ll have to buy an Android for sure just to experience that, while sacrificing everything else in the process.
