What is wrong with them?

I go to bed, I charge, I wake up its full. I put it in the car, I stop, i get out - its full.

Why do you prefer a wireless charger? It’s really unnecessary. It’s also not even really wireless, I’d expect wireless charging to be the ability to charge your phone wirelessly when it’s in your hand.

You must be driving for a good couple of hours.
My car charger with a Samsung A51phone charges at least 15% with 20 minutes of driving.
OTOH the last time I flew on an airplane the charger was just about keeping up with what the phone used. It was useless for charging.

I'm sure the cost of creating a production line for iPhones with chargers costs way more than this fine. It's cheaper for Apple to just pay a fine each year.

dumbest stupidest thing ever.

Apple are visionaries in this regard. Chargers are old, and useless. I have wireless chargers in my home, and my car. At the office there's USB plugs everywhere. There's chargers on airplane seats, airports, some restaurants etc etc.

Its like trying to hold on to that 80s headphone jack...

Then why did they not reduce the price any time they took something away.

No price drop for removing the headphone jack and when they stopped including headphones

No price drop when they stopped including the charger.

Methinks it has nothing to do with anything other than profits.

Not only is the phone more profitable, they can now make profit on selling you headphone dongles, chargers and headphones. All things that used to come in the box.

Honestly I’m surprised I thought it was a clever attempt to prove that everyone already had a USB power brick lol

Good. This trend needs to be stopped in its tracks. The fine should actually have been higher. Much higher. More like 40% of their annual turnaround plus VAT.

Why didn't Apple then include a wireless charger?

Wireless charging has been around for many many years - is that really what you expect when you hear the term?

In the 21st century, yes. I’d expect wireless charging to be over the air. Not placing your phone on a wired pad. It’s a scam.

LOL, they already have the production line. It's like that old joke of it costing more to remove the scroll lock. Only they save on the materials which doesn't even come to double digits here. Apple is just being a cheapskate here again like when they removed the headphone jack or cd drive and the "cool" kids lap it all up like the emperor with no clothes.

They have a production line for phones without chargers, they would need a separate production line for each model with a different box to fit the charger. Whether its additional workers to place the chargers in the box or a machine. They would need a duplicate production line to cater for that, or stop the current one and retool it to cater for the charger being added to the box.

Either way at their scale the duplication of lines or the stopping and retooling of production lines is likely way more expensive than the fine.

What they should have done is offered a free charger in store if you went in within one month of purchase. Or the option to add one free at online checkout.
