Apple is very much in favor of planned obsolescence, its been shown a few times in the past.
Theirs stories about not including chargers in new phone boxes to protect the environment is a load of poop.

Bear in mind that the very same Europe having a moan in this article are the ones against phone chargers to begin with and likely a big reason why Apple has opted to go without in the push towards all things wireless.

They definitely didn't come up with the idea all by themselves, it just works in their favour overall to get rid of it now.

That it has an environmental impact can't be denied, that it's their motivation for doing it is certainly convenient bollocks.

I take Apple's side here, they could have just let the phones crash every time the user with their old worn out battery wanted to do something, but instead they made amendments so it'll stay alive.

Just revert all amendments and force the users to buy new phones.

I do think the lack of user confirmation/notification was a valid issue though.

If only they made it an option from the very start none of this would have been a problem.

Then again how much slower are we talking? Is it actually noticeable or is it an inth of a second slower on certain things?

Much of this just seems like complaining because people like complaining.

So you buy a device, it runs just fine until a software update and then gets really slow.
Are you going to just be happy and say "Apple is looking out for me" or are you going to be annoyed that your device has been purposefully handicapped?

I kept my iPhone 6 for ages before upgrading to the X it was still nice and fast and there wasnt really a need to upgrade. That was before the updates that slowed everything down.

No no you are missing the point, you have a device thats YEARS old YEARS, that WILL have a failing battery, that you cannot use anymore because as soon as you press play on a 4K Pron hub video the current demand cannot be met by the OLD battery so it dies, Apple then made changes so the phone could only do what the OLD battery can handle.

There is the whole they should really get a new battery but that's another discussion.

So far as Handclapped goes, that's a gross exaggeration.

When the battery goes ****ed and you leave the performance limit toggle off the device becomes deeply unreliable and doesn't run half the apps without crashing and even sometimes just reboots randomly.

You have the option to turn it off after all.

So it was a noteworthy cause and it made sense, the problem was the lack of options and informing the user.

Oh not it's quite noticeable, my wife's iPhone 8 has just hit performance management with the battery going wonky finally and it's quite a hectic difference.

However it's stable, which isn't the case when you turn it off again.

And it's a simple case of going to swop the battery and it will be back to normal again.

There is no point trying to reason with you it seems.
The battery life on an older device degrades, it happens with all devices and people know to expect that. What people dont expect is for their devices to be purposefully handicapped.
Your phone isnt just going to turn off when you play a 4k video!!

You know what I mean, read the post about stability above.

Except one minor problem & caveat... when it's plugged in it doesn't return to normal speed either.

Apple's chips turbo quite high for a small window, overall it's not that much power, it's just that it's a lot of power within a small window, which is quite stressing for the battery, so older batteries can fail to give enough power so the phone switches off.

Issue with this is not that that happens, the issue was the lack of clarity about it, just from one day to the next your phone is slow and throttling, no warning before that the battery is getting old, no warning after that throttling is kicking in because of the battery.
