Apple has signed a 25-year contract for electricity from 130 megawatts of the plant’s capacity.
Paying $6.50 per watt is very steep. Could this be an indication of how much the cost of electricity will rise in 25 years or was it done as a promotional campaign for Apple?

Maybe this is a safeguard against a recurrence of the California electricity crises that resulted in wide-scale blackouts. This was not caused by technical faults but rather companies shutting down parts of the grid so that they could subsequently spike the electricity price by 800%.

Apple may have decided that human greed is a constant and they will be better off with their own independent supply.

Apple has a cash problem. Too much. Bringing in billions from abroad might as well go to buying creds with progressivists. Besides, it's a little offset against the very high environmental impact of making an iPhone. Bottom line: It makes 'em look good. And that helps sales.
