One of my colleagues at work got an Apple Watch in October.

Previously in meetings or informal discussions, he would be looking at his iPhone every few minutes.

I notice that now, he doesn't look at his iPhone anymore; he looks at his Apple Watch every few minutes. Because the phone is sending messages , he reads what's being displayed on his Apple Watch. This takes a few seconds longer than someone who is using a traditional watch and would glance at his/her wrist to check for time only.

So , when someone does that, I don't know how to interpret their actions.

What are your experiences with people who use the Apple Watch.

I look at my phone less, the watch lets me know if I need to take the phone out to respond immediately or just leave it for later.
But I don't stare at it all the time, and I have set the notifications to only alert on the ones I care about.

Battery life is ok, if I don't use it during gym then I can get almost 3 days of life out of it. With gym it lasts a day, but that is because for that hour it bumps up the heart rate sensor to every second instead of every 10 minutes.

That's the problem with it.. Culturally when someone is looking at their watch I assume they want to leave/ time tracking... So this has been interesting as when a colleague of men keeps checking his wrist I think he wants to leave so I naturally go abrupt.

I think people wearing watches need to learn to filter notifications and learn to only answer the really important ones lose it will cause issues

It's not waterproof?

Wtf? I realise I simply assumed that it was, like any watch ever, but still.

Or not.

Apple Watch has a water resistance rating of IPX7 under IEC standard 60529… so 1m.

There are those who have apparently showered with it just fine - but AFAIK it's not officially listed as such. Regardless, not going to try.

Guess it would've been nice to have it on whilst doing laps in the pool - but not the end of world, imo.

They can take quite a bit of water even though it's not officially listed as waterproof.

Aah okay water resistant is fine.

As long as you can shower and wash the dishes etc.

I just assumed it would be a non-issue, but didn't think about it having external charging.

DCRainmaker dived with it from 3, 5 and 10m, then swam a 1000 yards then put it in a pressure chamber simulating 10m deep under water. No issues. Videos on YouTube.

Got my watch yesterday! Woop!

Awesome. My latest app is the Clear app that I bought for my phone years ago. I use it for lists and tasks. Eg shopping. It's great. Can leave my phone in my pocket ;-)

Must try Clear - will check it out tonight...

Anyone else got any favourite apps - I find that part of the Watch app on the phone a bit limiting, with them only really showing off the featured apps and not really Top Charts.

So far I use PCalc occasionally and sometimes the Baby Monitor app when we're outside having a braai, although the novelty wears off quickly. And the bugs in most of the running apps are a bit annoying - so sticking to native Workout for the time being.

Try Strava for running

1Password works well for login codes on your wrist. Outlook works great for quick replies, scheduling follow-ups. For working out Freeletics is awesome, and Strava, as mentioned.

Never heard of Freeletics before - gonna check it out...have tried Gymaholic which is pretty good as well.

Talking about 1Password: does anyone know if there is an app that would allow me to use TouchID on the Iphone to log in to websites on my PC?
