A. There are apple users that are annoyed with this.
B. If other phone makers adopt this it this will be because no one complained.
C. It's going to be annoying having to hear about apple users complaining about this and seeing them get upset because purchasing separately is even more.
People also complained or derided apple for getting rid of the 3.5mm jack. Samsung have now done the same with their flagships and life seems to be carrying on.

My Moto Z, which came out just ahead of Apple's first jack-less iPhone, the 7, doesn't a have a jack. You need a 3.5mm to USB-C adapter which isn't as easy to find as the iPhone one.

Ah Apple, they've been testing the waters. Soon the iPhones won't have any ports.

I think that will make troubleshooting and diagnosis interesting, unless they can provide a way to get low-level access via wireless somehow. I know ADB can be achieved over WiFi but I am not clued up with Apple, but I would imagine there would be a way to do it via iTunes should they get rid of the data ports.

Maybe the smart connector that's found on iPads could make a feature. It is capable of power and data delivery after all.

Oupa and Ouma will be happy to hear this

That would be my guess. It would suck for a bricked iPhone to have to be sent to the nearest repair shop instead of your technically inclined nephew or cousin to hook it up to iTunes and restore it using DFU mode.

@Bryn a bit much drama methinks, as all old lightning cables and chargers will work with the 12.
For those who have USB-C laptops they give the lead with the phone.....fair and reasonable.
Those who wish to can spend on wireless charge options.
And YES smaller packaging is good fo the environment, this is not a maybe, and Apple may well profit at the same time.
Taking the phone straight to Usb-C would force most of the new phone purchasers into buying Usb-c chargers( more profit for them) cables etc. neither good for customer or environment ....Doubleplusbad!
Any chance you could summarise this?
iPhone 4
iPhone 8
Samsung
Motorola :)

So now what happens when people want to sell their phones to someone? "Tsek, go buy your own charger, I need this one"

I suspect a flood of denied warranty claims as well on phones. "This is your first iPhone so you used your Samsung charger on your iPhone? Sorry, you can only use official chargers and cables on your iPhone... denied"

With all the circuitry and logic involved in chargers these days, it's not an entirely unlikely scenario (that phone manufacturers can see what charger you used, not that they would deny a warranty claim based upon that...but you never know)

Boards are replaced with refurbished boards, the old boards are removed, sent for refurbishment and then it goes back into circulation, or atleast that use to be the case when we did Dell laptops.

Dell also doesnt solder down the SSDs or Ram in their mid-high range laptops meaning a way less ewaste when they fail, or you want to upgrade.
AFAIK the Dell XPS 13 has it's Ram soldered onto the board. The Wifi card and SSD however is removeable (I consider the XPS line mid to high end if one looks at the price).
