Apple's M3-powered MacBook Pro and iMac launched in South Africa

It looks like some of them arrived in the country, but not sure when things like the 16" M3 Max will trickle in. Seems to be a few weeks according to the iStore website.

If you are buying a M3 pro or M3 max MacBook, you probably need it, but if you are buying at the "entry level" of the MacBook Pro, you really should be looking at a PC or a MacBook Air.

Like this one at nearly half the price.

Excellent OLED screen, apple silicon level Ryzen processor, an OS that can run games (windows or Linux)
Double the RAM, double the storage and 70% of the battery life (not like intel PCs)
Also a much better port selection.

Lots of other options too.

8h battery life vs 20h. You can't compare the two.

Not at all.
He did not do a multitasking test.

Like what happens, when you have 20 or 40 browser tabs open while a render is running in the background, or simply running a webmeeting, while continuing to work across web apps.

The thing about RAM is everything runs fine, until you run out of it, then performance tanks.

The way web applications consume RAM right now. Macbooks with 8GB of RAM are going to start suffering like Windows PCs with 8 GB is starting to suffer. The reduced MacOS ram overheads compared to windows only means they will suffer a little later.

It is crazy that an Apple laptop can cost more than some people's cars, hehehe. A whopping R93K for a laptop is insane! That 8GB RAM MacBook Pro is an abomination; cannot believe Apple thought it would be wise to introduce an 8GB RAM model.
Core needs to stop doing drugs.

~R28k more than from the US.
Yip, Core Group really taking chances with SA Apple consumers. I get that they also need to make a profit, but such a large gap is crazy! I got my M2-Max 16-inch MacBook Pro brand new for approx. R23K cheaper while I was in the USA (Newark, NJ).

The 8gb M1 air still flies 3 years later as more and more apps move on over to ARM like Whatsapp etc. Will even gain some more performance once they are able to strip out the Intel / x86 / Rosetta 2 code.
