Data Usage Monitoring when connecting with cellphone via USB

Good day my fellow 3G/HSDPApiens :D.

Now that Vodacom's 3G/HSDPA on prepaid data bundles seems to be a bit more stable today (touch wood), does anyone know whether there are software which will allow me to monitor my data usage if I'm connecting to the internet with my cellphone via USB cable.
I know that there are software for the USB modems and the data cards. Is it compatible with using a cellphone as modem??

Oh, i'm using Samsung U700.

Yep, I've used Netlimiter ... doubles as a firewall and is quite good I found!

Netlimiter works excellent :>>

Also to all people on 3g, HSDPA or any pay per meg bundle type thingy's... Its wise to disable Windows Auto-updates *since some of those are around 5-8mb each, and there are litterally hundreds of updates*

Also a helpfull hint for those who don't want to spend all their money on pics and adverts when visiting websites. Run internet explorer click on Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> Browse down to Multi-media. Then unselect all the items under that tab. When u then browse websites or go check you email. Only the texts will show. The pictures won't download and chow your megs, Pictures will simply be displayed as a blank icon with a "X" on it. Its very helpfull if u retrieve your emails via a website, Most of those sites have ads on and pics.

Better still install firefox and the adblock plus extension. Thus you still get the pics without the marketing spam! :D

morkhans , I meant the advice to block all the pics. :>>

If u really want to see the pic and willing to pay the loot. Then u can simply rightclick on the blank picture and click "show picture"

Some websites or even when u check your mail have via a http. Those pics could chow your megs up quite quickly.

Or when your maybe browsing the net looking for something.. maybe a driver or whotnot. Sometime u have to go to 3-4 different pages or diverted to other links, and each page has a few pics or logo's on the sides or top/bottom. In the end u maybe want a 2mb driver but it costs you around 3.5mb cause of all the logo's and other rubbish.

Its not a problem if u've got dsl and got a 1gig or 2gig account. But when your paying per meg. Specially those R2 per meg out-of-bundle. It can be quite costly

I hear what you are saying. I have tried this in the past but some sites just don't render correctly if you don't load the pictures, and not everyone puts in their ALT tags :(

All web developers should be forced to test their sites in Lynx :p

Usage

Is there a software application (preferably user friendly !) that can monitor internet usage.

My Web usage has skyrocketed in the last month.

I leave my 3G novatel card in my laptop on the whole time.

Thx

Quite a few. My fav is Netlimiter as it shows you usage per application, so you can see which app is chowing your data.

Also DUMeter for constant monitoring.

Didnt read everythign as this is such a long thread, but does anyone know of a usage meter that is suitable for the linksys router? it resets its counter every time you disconnect and (I assume) having several machines linked to the router (none of which are connected all the time) means that installing a "counter" on any one machine wont help.
Any advice greatfully received.

@bosun: If nobody else has any better suggestions you might be able to do something with a program called routerstats. You can 'train' it to collect data at regular intervals from any of the router's menus and either graph it or write it to a file if I remember correctly. You should then be able to compile the data into a suitable form. It runs in the background and is compatible with most routers. The idea would be to sample the router's counter on one machine continuously and then identify the combined usage each day and sum these accordingly. The machine doing the sampling would need to be operating shortly before any router reset though.

Netmeter and Dumeter are great apps. For some reason though I can't seem to get Netmeter to work on my Vista notebook. Anyone else had and solved this problem?
