You also assume that there needs to be a server setup to play online for example, Company of Heroes is a fantastic RTS where you can play multiplayer as well. I play Pro Evolution Soccer 6 against a mate of mine online.

So instead of alienating everyone, again, try and drum up support for the games you would like to play and you may find more people interested.

I would also think that the cost of connectivity is also keeping people off-line.

Firstly lads if you go back and read all the posts you would realise that I didn't generalise, and I know their are gamers that play other games and are not afraid to try new things, and YES I am also in the category of people who play CSS and BF but I have logged onto many local servers that have sat empty since the day that saix launched them.

What I found strange is that internationally these games are revered by gamers but localy they sit empty.

I believe there are 2 things that contribute to the fact that S.A gamers only play a hand full of games.

1. Our gaming community is small (This is most likely the biggest contributer)

2. S.A Piracy of games is out of control, out of all the people I know that plays PC games, I am the only one who buys all my games original.

Mac: That is not what you said in any of your previous posts, I had read every single post before I made my post. The things you supposedly believe now is exactally what I said and corrected your generalised post on. Please do me a favour and go back and read your own posts before you say stupid things. Go read my post again and you will notice that I adressed everything in your first paragraph of your post. Please do not make me repeat everything. Go read my post over and over again untill you absorb what I had said.

I am so glad that you buy all your games, not everyone has that luxuary though, and by calling them lamers for not being able to afford all these other games is really pathetic.

By the way don't you see that you answer your own statements? You say that you see all these empty local servers and internationally the games are played, then you say our community is really small. Which infact answers your own statement. Therefore your statement is useless and has no point.

nrg_wp:

Yes the trips oversea's are happening, what I meant to say is the average joe online player thinks he stands a good chance to get to the top and win, but it is not that simple. I work as a Head Admin for Arena77 that currently host the qualifiers for the oversea's comps and as the current situation stands, it is highly unlikely that any the current team of players will be beaten any time soon. They also won't be changing members unless one of them decides to quit cs, which I don't think will happen because their skill level is way above any other team competing against them. So they don't have to practise so much and therefore doesn't consume their lives.

If you look at all those points you will see that the chances of any average Joe ever making it to the top and catching up with the skill level is not very high, unless there is some kind of prodigy type player with insane amounts of skill and talent that sticks out from the rest and gets himself known.

Thanks

So you are saying that you don't buy all your games, and occasionally you pirate games? and I admitted earlier in this forum that the gaming community in S.A might be too small.

I have company of heroes, how do you play with a group of people online without joining to relics international server, and I mean more then 2 people.

You use a tool called Hamachi from www.hamachi.cc.

How is Company of Heroes btw?

If you enjoy an RTS with a WWII theme then this is for you. The graphics are fantastic, the gameplay similar to Dawn of War. HUGE fun!!

I think DOW is a much better game then COH it feels like there is something missing in this game.

Look COH is a brilliantly made game, I just get confused about what units to make and when, and in COH it feels like you don't need infantry, and if you push out enought vehicles you can win, but in DOW if you just use vehicles you have nochance.

I have come to the conclusion that online S.A gamers are lame, I base this fact on the following

Almost all S.A gamers play the same games online, its the BF series and CSS, when told to try a different title online, they will usually say things like (but that will mess up my aiming in CSS or I am to cheap to buy original titles)

If you take a look at all the awesome saix servers that have been given to the gaming community you will see that most of them are ghost servers, with only the BF and CSS servers being full all the time.

Some gamers are so lame, that not only do they only ever play one game, but they only ever play one map on the same game.

I can only imagine that the S.A online gaming comunity are the type of people that would be happy eating the same meal in a restaurant every night of their lives.

And watching the same movie over and over again every day.

Look there are exceptions to the rule, but they are the minority caught in a world of mindless Awpers hanging out in dashuur.

Not only are the lame but they're childish and immature as well. You won't believe how serious they take gaming to the point of alienating new players

Whether Mac did say it or not i cant remember and too busy to check. But I did say this in support of Macguyvers arguement so it still stands, we know the local gaming community is small and simply put its a bad situation.

And as I have stated before you all know exactly who I blame for this!!!

But yes I also agree that building support for games we think are good is very important. Its thanks to some of my friends that I started playing Guild Wars, although now it seems to be dying locally and internationally (maybe just with my guild tho :/)

I think part of the problem is that there are no real online gaming lobbies in SA, other than SAIX which basically does FPS.

I have hopes for hamachi though. I'm sure we will soon see more dedicated SA channels for DoW, MoC, Total war etc.

Look COH is a brilliantly made game, I just get confused about what units to make and when, and in COH it feels like you don't need infantry, and if you push out enought vehicles you can win, but in DOW if you just use vehicles you have nochance.
CoH has a much greater tactical depth to it than DoW. Thats probably why you are getting confused about what units to make when etc. Microing your units is also very, very important. Use of position, cover, flanking , supporting units etc. I suspect that this is a game I'll be playing for a long long time.

would love to be able to play more locals though.

CoH is a great game! I often play it over Hamachi with some friends. Playing solo is fun as well. Good scenarios.;)

A different view for this post. It's not so much that the community is lame, but I would say that it is small (this is in comparison to the other places like Europe, States or Australia).

It is that much harder to get comunities going for other games.
