In a bid to rob a motorist of his wedding ring, two armed men tried to bite his hand in the middle of rush hour traffic in Johannesburg.

Duncan McLeod, founder and editor of TechCentral, told TimesLIVE he was driving home from an event in Sandton on Wednesday evening where he was the master of ceremonies. McLeod said he was driving up Republic Road towards Randburg about 6.45pm when he was attacked.

Traffic was heavily backed up.

He said he noticed out of the corner of his eye that someone was approaching him from the opposite side of the road.

His window was halfway down and he moved to pull it up, but the unknown man put his hands through the window and attempted to grab his key.

"There was a little bit of a tussle for my key, but I managed to get it away from him."

By now the attacker's accomplice had joined him and tried to snatch McLeod's cellphone, but McLeod fought him off.

Glad it turned out OK... Sorry that they got away with the ring. As for driving with the window down, hopefully lesson learned. I never have my window down more than a few CM.

Mr Duncan, why do you still live in this shithole country?

Techcentral can be run from anywhere in the world, I would have moved if I was in your position, you have the money.

****. I think I witnessed this happen. Was thinking about this all week.

Was riding on my bike down Republic Road, on my way home, and saw 2 guys running across the opposite direction's lanes. Initially thought it was guys running to catch a lift on a bakkie or something. Okay so I was tired and this was the earliest that I have left work in weeks so I was a bit over it.

When I passed on the left of the vehicle I noticed it was a Jeep or some sort of SUV. I couldn't see anything as the guys were on the other side of the vehicle. There was one vehicle behind the one that was targeted. I didn't try to have a better look as I was more worried about people stuck in the right lane trying to move to the left and not seeing me on the bike as I was passing in the left lane.

When I saw it was a SUV I started assuming the worst and these guys most probably weren't trying to get a lift and about 20m past the vehicle I heard someone hooting persenstly and it was at this moment that I think I knew something bad just happened.

Look traffic was backed up more so than usual at this time but I must've passed about 15 cars while in the left lane after passing his vehicle. So traffic was backed up on the right lane only and there was very few cars in the left lane. I passed the guy going about 40km/h after seeing the right lane was backed up.

There was one vehicle that moved from the right to the left and passed the guy while this was happening and one car left behind him. This car almost crossed over into the left lane but must've noticed me on the bike in the left lane and remind behind the victim in the right lane.

If the victim moved to the left lane when he saw the guys he would not have caused a collision as there were no cars he would've hit or cut off as he made the manoeuvre but must've thought traffic was heavy and he had nowhere to go.

Why do motorists continue to drive with their windows down and leave valuables visible in the car? That’s not to say you won’t be be hijacked but you have take some precaution, it’s the sad reality of living in SA.

Who drives with their windows down in a car in the first place?

This is where it is actually OK to blame the victim, before some SJW throws that in my face. People should really wake the fuk up and realize where they live.

Talk to me again when you spend a day driving my sh1tty Nissan Micra where the aircon button basically doubles as an emergency stop...

Except in certain dodgy areas, I mostly drive with the window down when it's hot outside.

I once had a Golf 1600, and I called the aircon button my turbo button. When you pressed it to shut down the aircon, the car literally jumped forward.

These ****ers at it again tonight. 2 black males targeted a BMW driver behind me on the corner of Republic and Jan Smuts. Luckily the driver was vigilant, I sure as hell wasn't, and spun off and there was enough space for him to take the slip way into Jan Smuts. These guys just casually walked away like it was no deal. Well, then I showed them the middle finger and they started walking back in my direction. Light turned green and I was on my way.

Thing is I am on a bike with a backpack so if they targeted me for the backpack then I would've been another statistic. Was very absent minded. I need to improve. This even after I was thinking about this event the article was about that happened not more than 300 metres down the road.
