Alleged card machine scammer caught stealing over R1-million

The Hawks have arrested a 27-year-old suspect for allegedly selling counterfeit card machines to a Tsomo hotel owner last year, resulting in over R1 million in stolen revenue.

The suspect allegedly approached the hotel owner claiming to be a representative of payment systems provider Yoco Technology.

So you telling me that some hotel in the Eastern Cape made over a million in sales in a few months?

Clearly I am in the wrong business, need to open a hotel in the Eastern Cape ASAP.

Not to mention someone managing the hotels finances didn’t notice money wasn’t accruing on the bank account statement?

As for a million in a few months, bear in mind that if Kenneth Makete gets his 29 billion, he can spend that much a day for almost 80 years.

A million in sales is not much, most of the EC hotels, conference centers are pretty busy.

Yep.

Its going to be a few thousand per night for each room, then they would probably have a fancy restaurant which would pull 10's of thousands per night.

Running costs would be just as high so not much margin there.

Anybody reconciling the numbers should have picked this up in the first week. First month at most...

I love how they say "alleged"

He was caught red handed so its no longer a case of maybe, but a case of LOCK THE FCUKER UP

How did he think he would get away with it though? Also, how did it take that long for them to pick up the issue. In retail we check that the card machines clear and tally up, at worst, once a week

Can anyone solicit a picture of said hotel so we can confirm it looks like it's occupied to that extent? I'm beginning to have doubts lol.
