ok I'm not sure if this is taken out of context, but it looks right

Yes, you are quoting out of context.

Yes, should a policeman asks you for ID you must produce it. If you are able to! In other words if you have it with you.

If you don't have it with you he must allow you to go and show it at a police station.

There is no compulsion, under any act, to carry ID. Therefore you are not tresspassing if you don't have it with you.

These policemen had other motives. Just wearing a uniform doesn't make you allmighty. Although most policemen think it does.

ok then I bow to your superior knowledge :p
but then how are cops supposed to tell who is here illegally? i wouldn't object to being able to identify myself at all times if it helps in locating illegal immigrants.. there are of course huge logistical problems with the shambles that is home affairs, and there would be more opportunities for corrupt cops to make a living, but where do you draw the line in trying to improve law enforcement in the country?

You know what they could do? They could start by doing some form a border control across our actual borders. Once they stop letting more illegals in then they can think about getting rid of the the ones already here.

Your superior knowledge is turning out to be rather inferior.

This whole thing started, and I am convinced about it, with corrupt cops.

If a cop has proper reason to believe you are commiting a crime, he has two options:
1. If it is a serious crime (murder, rape, robbery, stock theft,...) he can arrest you.
2. He can bring you to a police station for questining. If you refuse, which you may, he may arrest you. He must however be sure of his facts. If he arrests you for a simple crime and they can't make a case out of it, you may sue the policeman and the minister.

Freedom of your person is most probably the most sacrosanct right in our constitution. Rightly so too. If every policeman, with no specific qualifications, can go around arresting who ever he wants it will be the worst system you can imagine.

These cops dug themselves into a hole. I am going to follow the repercusions of this closely. Some of the old policeman will remember the saying: "Hansman en Poliesman."

Afaik the Metro cops have the same powers as the SAPS when it comes to detention and arrest ???.

Also it is very dumb to swear at them even if you think they are in the wrong ... remember the recent case of the lady and her little kid who got arrested and she wrote a sob story to Beeld ???.

Keep your cool as crimen injuria can stick.

It's not discrimination, that's the way terrorist's dress.
Only stupid, cheap terrorists. The best terrorists wear expensive suits.

but then how are cops supposed to tell who is here illegally?
They can't. And even people who are here legally often can't get the necessary paperwork. Worse you might wait years to get the necessary documents even though you were actually born here.

How much of a problem are illegal immigrants? I know there are supposed to be many here in South Africa. There appear to be many in most countries. The wealthier ones at least. Every country seems to have immigrant paranoia, never taking into account things like people making their own, legal, work or doing jobs that the locals would rather not do - common in most western countries. Yet governments generally prefer to pander to the locals' fears of the invading barbarian rather than take steps to recognise reality.

Obviously our situation is different because we don't have a shortage of unskilled labour. I'm still curious to know the real impact, positive and negative, of people entering the country without government authorisation.

I thought the metro cameramen were only allowed to make a citizens arrest, and that only the "proper" police had the powers of arrest.

I did have a good chuckle at the paralegal sight, they said (and I quote...)
"And they can take things away. This is called seizing the things"
It sounds like something out of a Monty Python movie. "Comes wiv us or we will sieze your fings...."
