obviously we are going to sign another striker

There is 0% chance that Eddie is going to go on loan in January….

Eddie is perfectly acceptable 2nd striker. He showed in the opportunities that he got last season that he can offer goals.

Starting 11’s is 2000’s thinking. Modern football with 5 subs and 50 games is about 16-17 man squads with multi functional players.

Considering that teams will be allowed 5 subs and 9 on the bench per match in the coming season, and with Europa and cup competitions, there’s going to be a LOT of rotation, so we’re going to need to sign a lot more cover in all positions. May end up with quantity over quality then. What’s important now is that we don’t end up with players like Tavares, Cedric or Mari though. We’re not all fortunate enough like City to be able to have almost an entire first XI of world class players on the bench.

100%.

This is why this Vieria deal has potential to be a great bit of business, “outsmarting” the market. A versatile player that gives us options with Saka, Odergaard and maybe even left 8.

But people expecting us to sign 50million+ players in every position x2 are delusional :)

The Taveres hate is really weird btw. This guy has elite potential going forward, had a few dodgy moments, and cost 7million. EXACTLY the types of deals we should be trying to do. Buy low - either be a big success, or improve value and sell for profit - repeat.

I still feel we need to spend around £150m this transfer season just to maintain our position in the league.

Rumours are that Arsenal had a 25mil rejection for a Ajax CB. Looks like they are going to spend at least 100mil this window and you can add Saliba to that tally because he's virtually a new signing.

We just seemed so meh without Tierney on the left for most of the season, so makes sense to strengthen there. We’re linked with a number of really interesting players, and seeing the Vieira deal out of nowhere, I reckon we may actually get them across the line. Most notable is Martinez from Ajax - starting CB for the Argentine national side.

Also just seen that we’ve had a £30m bid for Jesus rejected - after City made it clear he’s valued at £50m. Not sure what the problem is there, because that’s a pretty decent valuation for a very good forward (also being sold to a league “rival”). People go on about how he isn’t prolific, but 53 goals and 23 assists in 99 starts isn’t a bad return at all - for someone who really hasn’t had all that much game time under Pep considering (he’s been subbed 60 times but only managed 5 goals and 6 assists). At Arsenal, he would definitely start every game if fit, so we at least know which Jesus we’re getting.

Yeah, I reckon if that Ajax guy comes, then we will move on Rob Holding.
Guess it depends on how many center backs Arteta wants

White/Saliba
Gabriel/Another
Holding

Assuming that Mari is sold

Agreed. We pretty much need another LB. I however, think we should move on from Tierney, it was a mistake extending his contract. He clearly cannot play even 60% of a season.
15, 27, 22 (number of games PL games he has managed in the last 3 seasons)
We need reliable players (performances and fitness)

Not surprised on the rumoured stance on Taveras - you can take him on loan, but there is an obligation to buy, as we would need to bring in a new left back.

Jesus is another "perfect" Arsenal player - multi-positional, who can perform in a pressing system.
Negotiating for a player is how I would expect all clubs to operate.

were severely light at both fullbacks, when our world class starters are out on those positions who can we truly rely upon

Yes, that's basically what I said.. We need players we can rely on.
KT is not a player you can rely on, as the appearance numbers show.

cant rely on nuno or cedric either unless were playing 3-4-3/5-3-2
Cedric isnt close to world class, but is completely acceptable cover for RB. Obviously things dont really work like this, but IMO we didnt lose/not win games because Cedric was playing RB.

I said in my original post, we probably need/want another LB.

Looks like United what to hijack the Martinez from Ajax transfer

although I think we have too many center backs, martinez can also double up as DM that type of versatility can come in handy when those extra europa games and injuries start piling up

Apparently Arteta wants to sign 5 utility players to cover 7 positions.

Looks a bit frail, but he’s young enough to still develop physically with a lot of work in the gym.
Martinelli was the same and they bulked him up during an off season. I am sure they will do the same with him.

Trouble is bulking up must be done carefully, does not help you bulk them up, and in the process, make them slower and less agile. Then loose the qualities, that you bought him for.

Yes it happened over time with Martinelli, when he didnt get much game time. However, after the off season he looked visibly different.
