Yeah really thin at the back when looking at that bench and starting line up. Can't watch.

For once, AFTV actually made sense. I usually watch it for the lolz, but I have to say I actually don't feel that bad now.

Klopp has had 3 years and lot of money to build that team and get it to the apex of the EPL - it's no accident. And credit to him and the team for doing so well. Emery, by comparison, has been there for 5 months, and was given £50mil to try and steady the ship after Wenger left. With proper funding, and a couple more years, we'll most definitely be challenging.

If anything, today was just a glimpse of what we need to try and shoot for in the years to come. Let's hope for a good January window now.

On recent form, the Scousers, will likely give us 4 - 0. But hoping and praying we can rise to the occasion and get a draw. We cannot afford, mistakes, nor the giving away of senseless penalties - and we do not want to go to 10 men against them. But only the day will tell.
Popping in to say, damn, your post was indeed prophetic.

Must agree. This was the lineup in Klopp's first EPL game in charge of Liverpool.

The state of that defending...
The state of those penalties awarded/not awarded....
Lichsteiner offers nothing defensively or offensively.

Even the worst defenses don’t regularly ship 5 goals

He reminds me of Stepanov.

So what do you guys think, anything happening this transfer window? Ins and Outs?

Personally I feel if we can get the right players in the right spots then sure, but if we're getting more "stop gap/band aid" replacements then I'd rather do nothing and wait for the summer.

Top 4 is going to be tough and our best chance is most likely the Europa league route. It's a lot of eggs in one basket, but if we can pull it off we'll look like a much more attractive option for players of the back of having won a trophy and being in the Champs league again.

Strong rumours of Denis Saurez coming from Barca, will be a good buy.

But we need defensive reinforcements.

Ins: nothing on the radar, except for the usual transfer gossip. Hopefully a proven CB?

Outs: Ramsey could go for £20mil if Juve want him now - or he'll just leave for free in the summer. Honestly, I think we should hang onto him until then.

Top 4 is a stretch, so I reckon we should go all-in for the Europa. But at the same time try not to drop any further in the EPL - United are only 3pts behind us at the moment.

If we miss out on top 4 I honestly don't really care about our league position. If we miss out on Europa it might be a blessing in disguise. We can shed some of the deadwood in the squad and go into the next season with a more streamlined squad due to having no European commitments. Clear the wage bill and then start building from there.
We're going to have to take a few steps back in order to move forward. We're not able to spend ourselves out of the current position so management is going to have to be creative. Combination of smart recruitment and getting lucky with some of the youngsters coming good.

The defense is obviously a massive headache, but you have to feel for Emery having so many injuries in this area. Can't be easy to fix the defense with defenders getting injured in every game it seems.

Edit: I hope we don't waste money on trying to save this season. If we buy in this window it should be with the eye on the future and not just trying to salvage something from this season.

Gunners seem to be in 2 camps at the moment: 1. Wtf?! Why aren't we favourites for the league yet?! #EmeryOut 2. New manager is going to need a couple of years/transfer windows to get HIS team right, then we can start thinking about CL/EPL success (And not necessarily winning either - just doing substantially better than the last 10+ years). I'm firmly number 2.

I'd go so far as to say that I think Emery has over achieved in his first season, with limited spending. It's not that we've done badly to be in 5th (we have more points than last season after the same number of games played) - the teams above us have improved quite a bit, too (Liverpool were 16pts better than last season before we played them recently). So winning the Europa would be great, because we were close last year - and Emery is a "specialist", winning it 3 years in a row with Sevilla - so it's definitely not beyond him. That gets us into the CL automatically, and with adidas money coming next season, possibly some more quality players.

United have gone from being in the rearview mirror to being in the blind spot and gaining.

I think they're more surprised with their sudden streak than we are. I guess our expectations were only ever going to be top 6 with a new manager after 22 years, and we're on course for that - unless we spectacularly capitulate. What annoys me the most is that after only giving him £50mil in the summer, and restricting him to loans only now, the board (and fans) still expect him to try and achieve something.

I didn't get why we were still so tight with a billionaire owner, and then I saw an interesting tweet. His NFL team, the Rams, are now in the play-offs - after he spent over $1bil of his own money on them. Imagine where we'd be if he was actually a football fan?

Well what do you know? We turned up for a game against a top 6 side. Bit concerned by Auba's lack of lethality in front of pretty much open goals, but at least other people have stepped up. Great response after the dismal performance against West Ham.
