We should just resign ourselves to a tea pot team type of role and not hope for too much. It takes money to play with the big boys and we just aren't in the same league with them anymore. We also don't have the mental wherewithal to pull off a miracle on a shoe string budget.
Like I've said to coworkers who are Mancs and Scousers (strangely, the company I work for is in London...) I'm not under any illusion that we're a team that's going to challenge for the EPL or the CL anytime soon. We're a top 6 side, and will be fighting with the likes of Wolves, Everton and United for that honour for at least a few more seasons to come.
It took me a while to realise that, sadly - I would get hyped in preseason, only to inevitably be let down the following May. And it wasn't the club's fault, really - it was mine. I was used to excellence at the club for so many years that I'd left the bar that high, and got vexed when we got nowhere near it. We bagged three FA cups along the way, but it hit home when every team around us crumbled, and we still finished behind Leicester...
So yeah, we're not a "top side" anymore. Top 6, yes, title challenging, no. And we won't be until we get an owner who doesn't siphon every available penny out of the club. Football is officially a fantasy league played by billionaires now - but Kroenke hasn't caught onto that yet.
