we pissed away a 2-0 lead against Madrid yesterday and got soundly punished for it, hope this eventually gets drilled out our lads this season
Yeah really hope Papa doesn't get sent off in the first half of every game...

We did well when they went down to 10 after 9mins. But once Papa got his second yellow, our lack of cover showed, and Madrid pretty much subbed their entire team in the second half anyway (not unexpected for a preseason friendly).

And we only lost 3-2. On penalties. It was a good run out for the lads and a showpiece for the fans. Don't read too much into it.

And Saliba in an Arsenal shirt in the same day! Pity we can't get him right away...

Good it got done, doesn't matter that it got done on the same day, still short on defense.

Glad the deals are done. Especially happy about Ceballos.

Are we? I'd argue that we're short on quality rather than quantity cause we have, Sokratis, Holding, Mustafi (shudder), Chambers, Movrapanos and Nacho can play there as well. Sure, Kos wanting out puts a spanner in the works but I after next season we'll get Saliba.

Thoughts?

Why do you think that? Surely the fans are the only ones who notice the bus sized holes in the defence.

we have 5/6 CB’s already. Who are we realistically going to shift out.
Hopefully we mostly play a back 4 and holding kicks on when he is back.

We went to a back 3 last season specifically because of our lack of cover. Strangely, the shift worked, because we started our 22 game unbeaten run. So, Emery is able to tinker with what he has available. I second your sentiment that we won't be signing another CB for that very reason, though.

Do we need more in attack? Well, yes. Saw recent stats that out of the 16 games that neither Laca nor Auba scored last season, we only won 4. So while they're one of the league's deadliest strike partnerships, they definitely can't do it alone for an entire season - we need more in the middle, out wide and up top. Ceballos at least checks one of those boxes. Goals win games, after all. Just one more against Brighton, and we'd be in the CL this season. Of course, the counter arguement could be made that had we not conceded against Brighton, we would've had the same outcome.

So who needs Zaha anyway? According to Ornstein, we've just agreed a deal to sign Nicolas Pepe...

Aside Pepe and Tierney, Arsenal are working on signing a CB from serie A.

I think it's Daniel Rugani
