ASDL Router not working during load shedding even with a UPS

The flat I am renting still has an ASDL router. I bought a UPS so I could still work even when the power goes out, however even with the router plugged into the UPS, as soon as the power goes out it says there no internet connection. My knowledge about internet and ethernet, etc is zero to none. I need help, is there a way to get my ADSL router to work so I can have internet?

ADSL works on the phone lines, if they are down ADSL is down.

I don't know for sure that the phone lines do go down, but I can only assume that is what it happening?

Pick up the phone and listen for a dial tone. If there is no dial tone then your line is dead during loadshedding.
