The South African Broadcasting Corporation’s (SABC) plan to ask Netflix and MultiChoice to collect TV license fees has been dismissed as unrealistic by experts.

Deputy Communications Minister Pinky Kekana has recently said the expanded definition of a TV licence is outdated and needs to be adjusted to current realities.

The SABC said regulation is needed which would require service providers like MultiChoice (DStv) and Netflix to collect TV licences on behalf of the SABC.

To get Netflix users to pay a TV license How can u enforce this?? DSTV users to pay is much more feasible insofar as I would think SABC would be able to ascertain how many DSTV subscribers there are and charge DSTv accordingly.If SABC ever go digital the STB should be scrambled so if you want SABC you need to have an up-to-date TV Licence

While the majority of people do rely on the SABC for news and entertainment, the service is a luxury and if is to continue then it needs to do so in a commercially viable way. The internet is ubiquitous rather leverage that to inform people if the SABC can't operate without ever ending handouts.

Regretfully something like this will happen. When they loose all the fuel levy , where will they get that replacement revenue from ? If you charge your car with solar panel maybe a sun shine tax ? If you use eskom to charge your car there will be an additional fuel tax ?
