People are shocked at this and everywhere I read people are laughing at the SABC, but beware these corrupt bunch of crooks are serious and will follow through if this is not smothered immediately. I can remember a couple of years ago the articles about Netflix paying VAT. People on here scoffed and laughed at the idea but Netflix ended up giving in. Now this is a much crazier thought, but hell let's not take chances.

I say draw up petitions to make Netflix aware that if this goes ahead they will lose customers in South Africa. This BS should also be shared world wide and media from other countries should write about this so that the whole world can mock and laugh at the SABC/ANC.

I agree. TVs are no longer used just for TV so it should be scrapped, not the other way around. Making people pay for something they don't use makes zero logical sense. Funny how the SABC made it about watching with those "no matter how you watch" ads. Funny how they disappeared from TV when people started saying "but we don't watch".

DSTV I understand as they broadcast SABC, but why netflix? This makes zero sense. I have netflix but don't use any SABC service, so why would I need to pay for it. Make the people that want to consume it pay, if they can't or won't then shut it down.

Neither makes sense. Now with Dstv they can give a choice as it's subscription. But Icasa has made that impossible by mandating they include the SABC channels. It would also only be SABC2 as the others are free to air commercial ones.

To get Netflix users to pay a TV license How can u enforce this?? DSTV users to pay is much more feasible insofar as I would think SABC would be able to ascertain how many DSTV subscribers there are and charge DSTv accordingly.If SABC ever go digital the STB should be scrambled so if you want SABC you need to have an up-to-date TV Licence
