Asus RT-AC5300 bricked

My third Asus RT-AC5300 router was bricked last night. I have no idea why it happens – I have not messed with the firmware.

With the latest one I set it up last night, and it worked perfectly. However, when I tried to connect this morning it was bricked.

Cannot connect to it at all – wireless off, and connecting via Ethernet also does not work. Resetting also ineffective.

Anyone else having problems with high-end Asus routers?

Sounds like a fault in the Router Firmware - if it is 3 in a row?

Have you checked with Asus regarding the issue?

Exactly what the guys in the office told me I though it is highly unlikely that it can be 3 in a row.

Anyone else having problems with high-end Asus routers?

Over the years, I have been burned by ASUS many times -- to the degree that I now no longer buy *any* of their products. The first was a "high-end" motherboard in 2010 (exceptionally buggy and poor RAID support); another was a USB wifi dongle with non-existent Linux support; last one was a "high-end" (at the time) DSL-N66U router, which I only bought because it was "on special". Exceptionally poor support from the drones / cretins at ASUS drove me to load Tomato firmware, and it lasted for 3 months afterwards before bricking itself. A can of worms, a nice pretty label on the outside, but rotten on the inside. I have saved the pretty enclosure in case I need it for a raspberry pi project.

These days, ASUS, no matter what it is, no matter how pretty it is, no matter how discounted it is, I just say no. I have paid schoolfees more than once.

Strange, I have no issues with my ASUS RT-AC88u. Loaded Merlin firmware and running great.

3 in a row is then highly unlikely to be ASUS.

I would seriously have a look at the electricity supply to it. The product may be a little more fragile than most?
Eskom is not 100% on the money with regards to giving you a steady supply of electricity on the same frequency.

As an aside, pay R5k for an ASUS or 2.5k for a Unifi Pro which is the superior wifi product.

@RPM : Please send us the Faulty Asus Router(s) you have, as one of our engineers is fantastic with repairs especially on routers and modems , to date he has repaired over 200 units of different brands including three of my own that were sitting in cupboard at home

Yikes, RPM.

I bought the ASUS DSL-AC52U (with some help from you and takealot) . Seems all OK so far. Switching to 5GHz to my HTPC is bloody amazing, it's almost as quick as wired. Hope this thing does not pack up as well.
