AT&T Goes After Netflix With HBO Max Service at $14.99 a Month

AT&T Inc. priced the new HBO Max streaming service at $14.99 a month, entering a crowded field of media and technology giants led by Netflix Inc.

Launching in May 2020, HBO Max will offer 10,000 hours of content, the company said Tuesday in a briefing at Warner Bros., the Burbank, California, studio where “Casablanca” and “Friends” were filmed. The service will include classic HBO shows, new programs, and a slate of acquired titles and content from the Warner library.

Looks like a interesting fight between
  • HBO Max
  • Netflix
  • Showmax
  • Apple TV+
  • Youtube Premium
  • Disney+
  • Amazon Prime Video
  • Google Play Video
Popcorn time* as these giants fight it out.

Will they also have a staggered offering like we're paying same price for a watered down Netflix compared to America?

Honestly, when the big boys (outside of Netflix) go global, Showmax is out of the picture... and Google will collapse Youtube Premium and Google Play Video into a single service....

Which is going to be sooner, rather than later ...

Really? There are still shows that should be kept up to date on Netflix that aren’t, even after all this time.

Subscribe to a bunch of these to get content and suddenly DSTV is going to look cheap. TPB will probably become more popular in future.

With all these companies suddenly jumping up and starting their own streaming services, it will just be much more cheaper for a user to pay US$12 a month for access to any of the file sharing services and then to join a free release group to get all the shows from all these companies at one single source and download them all to local hard drives.

DSTV will use this as an excuse to triple or quadruple their already ridiculous prices.

The one to watch is Disney as they now fully own control HULU. There will likely be a bundle that includes Disney +, HULU and ESPN +.

EDIT: Updated incorrect ownership
