This post made me think:

I love how adding <€1 to the price of a game suddenly puts it into a whole new category of affordability :D
For lots of <18/21 who don't have a bank account, it definitely does.

At what age did you get your first bank account where you could withdraw money on your own?

For those with kids, at what age did they get their first bank account where they could withdraw money on their own?
Do you give them a credit/debit card as well, which they can use for online purchases without having to ask for yours?

Edit:
Use 5-6 for younger ages as well.

I think I got mine around 7. It might be earlier, but I don't remember exactly when. I started getting pocket money a bit earlier or around the same time. R1.30 a week
When I got it I still got a bank booklet, where you would put your stamped withdrawal / deposit slip which the cashier gave you. I think the bank also kept a copy? This was back around 1987.

My wife never got pocket money. Whenever she wanted something, she would have to ask her parents for money. It probably changed when she moved out to university.

13/14..

Was a paper boy and Die Burger only paid my weekly wage into a bank account.. I remember trying to withdraw the last 10rand in there for two cans of coke for my friend and I.. had no idea at that time that it costs money to withdraw and tried a few ATMs until eventually my card was swallowed..

Still have no idea what happened to the account 15 years later..

Video store was my first job after army.
In high school was also a waiter in the evenings

We learnt how to make money back then, not the handouts kids get today hahahaaaa
Was so 'good' I forgot about it. If you were smart you queued them to fill a week but not to far apart. I also did cyber cafe(s)...

that existed here?? paper/milk delivery to your home? like in the US?
wasnt it dangerous, locally at least?

how did it work, if you subscribed to the paper, then you got the delivery?

forgetful millennial here, never remember seeing those ever in my life.
always remember you brought newspapers, or read online, but never had them delivered to your door.
