R41k before tax. Assuming you're single and no kids you'd be fine come pension. Add a kid, a partner who gets retrenched etc etc and you're basically 1 bad month away from being poor poor.
Yip, I was single and clearing R50k plus car, phone, 2/3 pension and 100% discovery classic comprehensive. My only saving grace was that I worked there for 15 years so the pay out was good. Not good enough to retire though, just enough to pay off the car and not be homeless for the next few years.

I'm selling my 2012 A4 B8.5 3.0TDI quattro s-tronic and keeping my dads 2001 A6 C5 2.4 tiptronic. The only issue I have is the 18l/100km fuel consumption.

How long does an estate take to wrap up? Thank goodness he had a will and the executor is doing everything.

Got letter today I am to be retrenched on the 28th Friday. I am in my late 50s

Jussus that sucks big time. Hope you get a big payout that you can invest and live off the interest.

Sorry to hear this. Do you mind sharing your financial situation? Are you able to retire and live off your pension?

I wish but no, contractors don't get all the perks. We are cheap disposable labor. At least my wife is still employed so we can keep our heads above water.

No I can't retire but I will be handing in my CV next week at every office that allows it. This is not the first time will not be the last time.

Hope you've been there for decades!

Just wait until the whiteys (and co) have nothing left to lose, then this 100k per month ****ers wont know what is going to hit them!

That's what I am now which sucks donkey balls as all the responsibility falls on you and not the company.

I have nightmares of the "it worked before you touched it" scenario and sue me for a few hundred k.

That and nothing breaking for 3 months.

UIF only lasted 12 months and you only receive R4000 which is their "max" pay-out (for a R100k cost to company package, paid UIF for 30 years, PAYE was R15k pm), and you have to stand in a line once a month.

Which industry were you employed at?
Telecommunications. Our most hated company. Year later was offered a temporary contract to go back to fix the errors etc that my replacement caused. Refused as it was not financial viable as all the travel costs will be for my pocket.

Retire....???? What's that...? I am 63 years old, and still work at any job I can find or facilitate. We are all retired mostly police or army veterans who are now professional military history guides here in Northern Natal. You cannot afford to really retire. Here we die with our boots on.

I sit here in front of my PC at my office, But is this work.

65, but I won't go sit around and wait for death to arrive. I will find some contract work or start a small business to keep me busy

UIF is not part of PAYE, it's capped at under R200 a month as only for salary up to R18k or so (you'd need to look up latest figures, I last dealt with this about a decade ago).
