Hey d0minar, welcome to the forums, I can't find anything on google, maybe ask the guys for a similar card in this range? There was mention about it in some threads a while ago. ;)

Not so strange lol!! :D Just continue in this thread, ask people for a similar card ;) You could also send TivoZA a pm, he's good with things like this, maybe there's a card that's better than the ATI one in S.A.

So I'm guessing you decided to go with the ATI card based on your(?) questions on the Toms Hardware forum :p

It does look like a nice card but I'm not aware of any local ATI distributors, what's stopping you from ordering it off an overseas site that ships internationally?

The mostly highly recommended TV tuner that is available in SA is the "Hauppage WinTV-PVR-150", it provides a high quality picture and at R700 it definitely provides good value for money. You could always go with it's big brother, the "Hauppage WinTV-PVR-500" which allows recording from two sources simultaneously but it's a bit more expensive at R1439.

Both the ATI and Hauppauge cards are good makes, I wouldn't recommend using a Leadtek as you'll battle to get it working with a media center (e.g. MCE, Media Portal, etc) and it's quality is nowhere near as good as the ATI or Hauppauge cards.

I'd also suggest visiting the techies.co.za forums as you'll find lots of useful information with regards to getting a TV tuner as well as the setting up of a media center system in South Africa.

the tv wonder elite is one name for the card.

the other name is ati theater 550, or sometimes called ati theater 550 pro (named after the chip on the card)

you may have more luck asking for it by that name, as the name "tv wonder elite" is more commonly used in the states to refer to this product.

it is excellent, as mpeg2 encoder cards go, and especially useful if you limited to a composite input, as the card contains a 3d comb filter to seperate the image better.

it is listed on this page
http://www.buycomputers.co.za/defau...Radio&subcatid=64&catid=31&catname=MultiMedia
at the bottom right corner, the sapphire theatrix
