ATM Transmit / Receive speeds

Hi,

Could anyone tell me what the ATM transmit and receive speeds should be for the 512Kbit service and the 1024Kbit service (now 4Mbit I suppose).

Mine are set at 256/512 respectively according to my modem diagnostics, however my line speed is at 384/4096. Am I still in an 'in-between' state of the upgrade, or is this correct?

Thanks in advance,
Phaedrus

So your getting speeds of 512K line still ?? (so you've upgraded to 1mbit recently ?) Thats my guess..

Line sync speed and actual speed of thruput is two different things.

Many ppl have sync'd at 4mbit before 1st of Sept, but still got their 1mbit speeds.

Could be that u had 512K , upgraded to 1mbit. Wich is now 4mbit. Your line sync's at 4mbit now, But the thruput hasn't been done for your line.

Could be on telkom's side, could be at ISP. Tuff one.

Thanks Napalm.

Yes, upgraded to 1Mb from 512 on Thursday, but when I asked if I had been upgraded on Friday, Telkom wasn't sure, and no-one understood what I was talking about when I mentioned ATM.

I can get speeds up to 280Kb, but only if I use a download accelerator. General browsing and mail downloads appear to be only slightly faster, probably around 62KB.

Will probably have to wait and see what happens this week.

Sometime between Thursday afternoon and early Friday morning. I am not sure of the exact time because I wasn't at my computer when it happened.

i know many ppl say they still get 1mbit speeds (on single link downloads), but using Getright or other download managers with muliple links. They get 200kb per sec and upwards.. And even on torrents

Less than 24 hours, probably around eight as I am not usually away from my computer for longer than that (sad I know). :D

Haven't tried torrents yet, will give them a go and report back.

Torrents should work nicely.. just make sure there are many seeds. 20-50 Seeders..

Am managing around 62KB on four concurrent torrents with max connections set to 30, so closer to 512 speeds then 1024. Using Bitlord, perhaps another client would yield better results. They are all quite well seeded.

Rather try Bitcomet , and make sure your portforwarding adres is open.
And that your torrentapp is using that open port. (change it on your router)

Incoming and Outgoing ports (NAT)

Thanks both of you.

I will give BitComet a test drive later and report back. Have to run now...
