Just for perspective in 2014 you could get the Megane Rs with 195kW for R389k or the lower GT with 162kW for R330k.

The VW GTi started at R360k for the manual and R383k for the DSG, so it is very clear why it was a non starter, the fact that it had a Quattro was not going to help.

I saw that, but hard to judge. So 2022 they would be 600k+ easy right
The Yaris GR is already R761k, I think it would be around there if the idea was to keep up with other cars in its class. It was a very Ill-informed business decision, at least VW were brave enough to make an Up GTi with 80kW or something, Audi could have found a way, just make it an S line or something.

Okay then easy to see why it failed. It was helluva niche to start with.

It did come in an S line, with the Polo GTI engine, that one sold a bit better.

R480k in 2014 would put it at R710k today at a 5% annual increase, which we know to not be the case with cars. I would guess closer to R800k+ considering it was already more than R100k more than a Golf GTI back then...

That would be a “Polo R” if VW ever made one. I’d say 700K plus considering a well specced Polo GTI can hit 600K at dealers.

I liked it as well but it was silly money for a small hatchback which made little sense.
