I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 tablet, but from what I can glean from the internet any device can have a problem similar to mine - both Apple & Android.

But let me start at the beginning...

When I first bought the tablet there was a brief nano-second hesitation before it played any music. I prefer not to use headphones as the Note 10.1 actually has very good sound. This never bothered me, until one day every sound played at 50%. Everything, from alarms to music to whatever. I could turn the volume up to 100% and nada, it stayed at 50%.

Quite annoyed I decided to listen to music through my headphones, and that was terrible, garbled nonsense like a radio station at full volume and slightly off frequency.

So I gently cleaned the audio jack - nothing. I tried my headphones on my S7 - perfectly clear, so no problems with those.

Then one day I found out that if I slowly pulled the headphone plug out of the jack one notch it restored the volume to 100%. WTF? It doesn't last, the minute I get an SMS or anything it instantly resets volume to 50%.

So I ask you this. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

I have that same tablet, but mine is fine.

I wonder if there is physical damage to the headphone socket ?

It is quite easy to open those tablets, I did it for another reason, but maybe check all other possibilities before you do that.

Tried that, now on the latest UK official rom courtesy of Sammobile. No charge. :(
Hi, we also thought that and ordered a headphones socket interfaced with speaker from AliExpress. I have a P605, my brother has the 3G version, the P601. His is fine, dammit. Anyhow, being a electronics technician, he changed the part for me. To no avail, same symptoms.

Hmm, seems as if you have tried just about everything. Bummer. Don't have another suggestion.

BTW, what Android version is that UK rom ?

Nor do I. This was my last resort as I suspect some type of motherboard failure. On the other hand, I was desperately hoping some brainy boffin would say; "All you need do is reboot with the sim card out and when you add it again all will be as new."
No, I'm pretty sure that won't work either. :p
It's just so frustrating as no one seems to have had this exact type of failure before. The sad part is that a motherboard (if you can find one) costs almost as much as buying a 2nd hand P605 on Gumtree/OLX.

The above is the UK one I have on. I have noticed that there is a SA Vodafone / Vodacom one released a couple of days ago. I am gonna go for that now. Clutching at straws now, but anything is worth a try. Here's the link to the P605 lot:

Please be aware that if you have a P600 or P601 and you flash P605 software you will brick your tablet. Always be careful about what you are doing as sometimes the consequences of a mistake are permanent.

LOL, I already bought blutoof. :D

I have Skullcandy headphones at the moment. I also have a Chinese no name bluetooth speaker that actually sounds quite good when in use. I am now looking for a nice pair of USB headphones.
