Australians get 'right to disconnect' after hours

If you are required to be available it'll be stated in your contract. I mean if the sky is falling I think it's reasonable to expect all hands on deck to save the ship as that's in your interest as well.
Often, that's what they exploit as far as reasonably possible.

The business world urgently needs to replace all humans with machines. Easy as that. Humans are the most useless species in existence.

Here you have a useless employee coming in asking for one day off work. That employee should actually be fired.

Think about this. There are 365 days in a year.

Now, minus 104 Saturdays and Sundays.

This leaves a useless human with only 261 Work days

16 Hours of every day you are not at work. That is another 174 working days gone.

That leaves now leaves that useless human with only 87 work days left.

If you count tea time, lunch time that is another 40 days gone.

This leaves the useless human with only 47 working days left.

Now minus 12 days sick leave and 13 public holidays.

This leaves the useless c**ts with only 22 work days a year.

And they come to the company asking for more days off.

What a chop the human race is!

What a dumbass-
There's 52 weeks in a year. That means 52 weekends, 52 Saturdays and 52 Sundays

All creatures need to sleep. Do you know what sleep deprivation does to living things?

Communists just cutting their own throats.... nothing else to see here.

If you need your staff to be available after hours, then you have on call shifts with remuneration in their contracts.

It's only fair.

This is meant for sane humans who inhale oxygen and exhale CO2. I'm referring to humans who metabolise food and have normal bodily functions.

If you're off the clock, you're off the clock. Pretty sure that's the law already.
Yes, but there is provision in the law for employees being asked to work extra. Importantly, this is paid overtime and whether your employer can force you to do it depends on what needs to be done ie. Is something critical to the business function failing, NOT I need something delivered earlier.

“An employee cannot refuse to work overtime if the work which is required to be done must be done without delay owing to circumstances for which the employer could not reasonably have been expected to make provision, such as the sudden breakdown of equipment, and which cannot be performed by employees during the ordinary hours of work.”

I’m sure other exceptional cases exist as well, such as with doctors and energy supply etc.

That's nice, but it's not the way the real world works.

In the real world the boss will ask very nicely who is available after hours, and will stress that you have every right to refuse and that it will in no way affect your job or career, and will even show understanding and empathy if you decline.

...and from then on you will be passed over for promotion and when it's retrenchment time no effort will be made to spare you. You will probably never realise why, because the boss and the company will continue being very sympathetic and supportive of your rights.

One can only hope.
It may be insensitive, but in my experience bein retrenched is like winning a minni lotto with a bit of extra stress.

As for promotions, if you are overlooked because you don't want to be available after hours, you can probably expect more of that in your promoted role, so I think they can keep it.

Heres the thing, few people will make an issue out if it if its every once in a while when they're at home anyway. Most people will only complain if it's expected and a regular thing.
