my point stands

I will help you even further, there was nothing binding about that fatwa on anyone
Doesn't seem to have mattered to the nut who stabbed him. When a fatwa does bind, how is it enforced and who is expected to carry it out. Easier in the theocracies in the east I guess but outside of a theocracy you'll be arrested. I imagine the fanatics do want to be killed for it.

as you say, its a nut, thats the end of the discussion

out of 1.5bn sunni muslims, it took one (possibly shia) nut to do something 30 years later

if thats not evidence of a fatwa that has no binding then I'm not sure what you consider to be binding

The binding or not of it doesn't seem to have mattered in this case. The number of attempts on his life makes it clear that some in the faith took the mullah's words to mean it's binding. I'm sure people have been killed on fatwas issues by Al Qaeda and Taliban.

a fatwa is nonbinding...

if like you, nut jobs think it's binding that doesn't change the fact that fatwas are non binding

On 14 February 1989, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the Supreme Leader of Iran and one of the most prominent Shi'a Muslim leaders, issued a fatwa calling for the death of Rushdie and his publishers.

Whats that word.
For lying to people, if it suits the religion.
There are two religions that i know of that allow it.

Your ignorance is showing strongly in that post. Keep going

So go ahead and use another famous religious figure.
Like the one in the religion in the article mentioned.
Cmon lets see if you would do it then.
Bet you wont.
Last I checked, shouting "Mohammad" at something outrageous didn't mean too much, but if it makes you feel better... Mohammed, Allah...!

Now... FO!

also it was a shia that gave the fatwa

so apparently fatwas issued by shia are binding on sunni muslims if we go by the premises of what has already been stated about fatwas in this thread.

Interesting, I didn't know it was a shia fatwa, I'm assuming sunni's(the majority/largest muslim sect) would just ignore it because most of them seem to look upon shia as if they are dirt?

This is some John Wick excommunicado fatwa that was given. He sure lasted long seeing that 1.5 billion people were contracted to assassinate him and still going. Maybe the Pope can assist?
