The ability of them to just seize peoples accounts because "someone" might be able to launder money, actually just proves how much we need a system like bitcoin.

People have been laundering money for a long time. they are simply trying to stop bitcoin because they don't have control over it or a way to print more of it at will.

From what I understand and I might be wrong bitcoin is used primarily for illegal activity such as paying for child porn etc.

Sure, but lots of legitimate things are used for illegal activities, that doesn't mean they should be banned. We don't need governments to take care of us and we don't need governments to tell us what we can or can't do.
