This is great news !

My car locks if I look away for more than a second, its horrible.
Locked my keys in the car the other day and it cost me 2k to get a locksmith on a sunday 100km out of CT.

Next time it will be my kid locked inside. My worst nightmare.

Autolock is the stupidest thing ever.

It autolocks with the key inside? Your car is stupid. :wtf:

Does your wife need the seat-belt to attach itself too?

Yeah it's irritating. My 8 year old Polo auto-locks, and my 2 year old 86 doesn't.

Realistically speaking though, in terms of safety in SA, I don't think that it makes much of difference in the real world. Criminals rarely (if ever) go for the door handles, they usually just smash the window...
Get that film on your glass to protect you from this. I'm not sure how many smashes it takes (it could be indestructible for all I know) but at the very least it'll give you time to drive away.

Yeah I already have that.

But just saying, crims don't tend to go for the door handles - in the event that it is locked, it could spook the victim and allow them to get away. Smashing the window, they have a better chance at getting to the victim or anything inside the car...

But don't most people lock the doors manually if they don't auto lock anyway - I know I do? So what's the difference - they'll still be locked?

At least with most auto-locking systems there is generally an auto-unlocking feature in an accident which even though it may not always work is better odds than a manual system.

My 2015 Figo still locks doors automatically.

As does my wife's current Volvo. I would not like my wife and child to drive around in a car that does not lock the doors automatically.

Also, many years ago, my parents had a 1999 Merc E240 and we once hit a giant pothole at 140km/h+ and the door locks popped open. So even in those days cars unlocked the doors in the event of an "accident" or impact.

Surely it would be a simple case of having it off by default and then you go into the menu and change it if you like.

2012 golf tsi, can configure the central locking. Apparently the same car doesn't do the same in the UK?
They can have it different for different regions,to remove completely for all regions is just stupid.

Personally a fan of auto-look doors; all my last few cars had them.

I doubt I would not purchase any car that would not have it.

Its a Mazda but i checked all the Japanese cars have it disabled, Honda Mitsubishi, Toyota. Didn't check the germans as we we're not in the market for a german car.

Look my wife can lock her own door and she does but anyone can forget. Smash and grab tracker etc fitted. But it just bugs me. In the settings menu of the car that option is greyed out, everything else to do with the locks you can change so its clearly disabled in the software. It even says that the doors will auto unlock in the event of a crash so clearly it can auto lock they just wont allow you to enable it

Can confirm that Ford have been doing this for the past few years.

Stupid Figo had auto-locking doors but the newer Focus doesn't, and neither is there a way to enable it.

The disturbing part of this is that as South Africans we are actually concerned that someone will try and steal your car while you are actually still inside. Crazy. Andat home you have electric fencing, a security gate and burglar bars. Plus an alarm and armed response.

So I am in the market for a new car and after test driving a couple I noticed that the car doesn't lock itself at certain speed, like most of us are use to. We know how desperately we need this in our beloved SA....

Looks like all new cars produced after mid 2015 will have this option removed, will have to lock manually. I think this is a step back but it seems they don't have a choice as being governed by EU Law - this is where most of our cars come from.

http://www.livelifedrive.com/malays...oor-locks---why-your-car-doesn-t-come-with-it

Im not sure the majority of our cars from the EU. I would check your info. Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Ford, Toyota, Hyundai, Suzuki, Kia and many other brands come from East Asia.

Ive never looked for this feature in a car before. Dont see the point of it really and I could imagine it could create situations where people have accidents and then its harder to get them out the car.
