This is great news !

My car locks if I look away for more than a second, its horrible.
Locked my keys in the car the other day and it cost me 2k to get a locksmith on a sunday 100km out of CT.

Next time it will be my kid locked inside. My worst nightmare.

Autolock is the stupidest thing ever.

That's odd. My car wont lock if it senses the key is still inside the car.

We know this, we're talking about new vehicles released in 2015. Is yours a 2015 model or facelift?

My car didn't come with auto lock. Instead it came with an annoying audible instruction to lock the doors everytime I drive off. I could try to disable it but it would cost me half of everything I own. Fortunately the system only seems to work when my SO is in the car with me.

Check this out

A guy in my area went to Michells Plain and needed to take a piss so he pulled off the road near some bushy area.

When he got back the car auto-locked him out. Keys and phone were in the car. He walked to his sister's house about 5 minutes away to get someone to fetch his spare keys from home.

When they got back the car was gone :D

This is 50-odd year old who bought the car cash with his pension payout. I'm not even sure he had insurance yet because he bought the car some time last week and it was stolen (given away :p ) on Saturday.

I'm not sure what car it was because my wife told me. She's friends with his daughter.

I know Honda removed the auto lock functionality with the 2007 Civic's onwards. The reason given is that they couldn't guarantee the doors would unlock in the even of an accident. I'm pretty sure they did the same for other models around the same time. It's a feature I wish I could turn on, as I'm always forgetting to lock the doors when driving off. Here's more info on how to turn on the feature in pre 07 8th gen civics.

Ja that's the reason they giving everyone - can't guarantee that the "auto unlocking mechanism" won't be damaged in an accident.

Look at the car accident rate vs the car hijacking rate.

Before calling BS I suggest you consider the actual numbers.

Uhmm, a quick google search indicates that there were close to 15,000 fatalities in accidents alone last year. Never mind non fatal accidents.

There were 11,221 hijackings nationwide for 2013.

So yes, I still call BS.

So then we agree...

Another quick google search indicates that non-fatal accident estimates are around 500,000 a year, so how does that level your chance of getting hijacked?

A lot less... Which is what I was saying

Well, if the doors were never locked, the hijacking figures may increase significantly :)

I think it's much of a muchness because if the doors don't auto lock then people will just lock them anyway. So in terms of this type of autolock it's pointless to remove that feature.

On the other hand my car seems to be the only one that locks when the keys are in it and feels more like a failing than a feature

The last car I can remember that could lock with the keys in it was a Ford Laser from the 80's that's how far behind you car is. You should feel shame :p

2014 ballade! But I feel the shame.

Even my previous laser had a drivers door that you had to hold up the door handle when you shut it or the door would unlock.
